Looks like an installation, as someone has pointed out it would good if there was a neat solution of making sure plenty of air gets to it. If it is boggo other than the ITBs then a 30bhp gain is nothing more than what you should expect.

I think the power and feel of a ITB kit would be significantly better with a full milltek for example and off coursse maybe most important, a GOOD/BIG cold air intake and make the ECU get good use of it.

Could do with a cold air feed?

Some other pics from a different air intake from the dutch forum...

Don't know THAT much about the technical aspect of cars to know what is best though.

We did a load of testing on the kits with and without cold air feed kits and found zero difference on the stage 1 kit.

quite strange as trumpet length of throttle bodies usually has quite an effect on the power/torque from the engine. shame the VX engine is so close to the bulkhead as it means you have to have a short trumpet length..

sorry was meant as the cold air feed bit.. i thought thorney meant an enclosed box with a cold air feed.. im not reading through 20 pages as i have better things to do.. but have they tried playing with different trumpet lengths to see the effects on the engine?

Oh no, we spent 18 months developing it and just went with whatever was on the workshop floor  ;) There is very little room against the bulkhead so we went for an optimum lenght considering that.

you can curve trumpets. i was only asking if you have tried experimenting with different trumpet lengths. no need for sarcasm really is there?

bulkhead to cloose to the engine, long trumpets. enclosed box with cold air feed.

Techincally you could use a curved trumpet as like exhausts performance is due to the wave tuning which is in turn due to the volume of the gas in the trumpet, but would prob be a 1 off design therfore v expensive.

Edit due to pic: I wouldn't really want to curve the that much as you could get uneven throtle response, but a nice upward curve exiting through the boot lid may look good!

obviously it depends mostly on the engine/cams/etc they obvioiusly found otu that length was best for the power/torque characteristics they wanted and due to the lack of room had them curved that much to keep the length there... another lad had them curving and pointing straight up (90degree), then had some louvres pressed into the bonnet to get a decent air gap to them. obviously different engines to a VX but similar theory is there with regard to the lack of space between engine and bulkhead. trumpet length should be designed for the engine not just whatever fits in the gap

Guy, I guess I'd take you more seriously if I didn't think that every post you made was simply just to have a dig, but I guess we live by our actions eh? (No sarcasm) of course we tried different lenghts what would the point be of developing this if we didn't, we settled on a length that was the best for the power delivery and available space.

I'm not too worried how long my trumpet is -- the bottom line is my performance is excellent.

it wasnt at all, its a discussion forum, was merely asking if trumpet length has been experimented with as, you have probably found out by now, it affects the engines characteristic quite considerably, and a way of getting round the unfortunate lack of space if longer trumpets are needed is to use curved trumpets, i notice that the elise on the speedster forum uses quite long curved ones too to get round the space issue.
