Hi John,

Is the above different to the F1 supplier developed 4-into-1 that you launched a couple of months back? If so, how much cheaper are we talking? Is it still a 4-into-1 or have you gone down the 4-2-1 route? chinky chinky

Could you sell the iTB components in user configured bundles? Many engine modders who visit here like to build their own configurations. Fot instance, I am looking for the iTB throttle cable conversion plus cams. I did want a head but since my query (no answer) have acquired one elsewhere. Here's 2 cents for you.... You need to figure a way to handle online queries efficiently. IMO you've missed/missing alot of business by not having the capability to service all requests that are coming at you online. One quick avenue available to you is to setup a forum for just TMS VX Sales & Tech Requests. That will help you focus on the 'Earner' content, allowing you to find the people who are willing to spend their hard earned cash easier thereby helping them with their needs quicker.

Nice idea. However, if someone was interested in buying something (and was serious) surely its worth a phone call or an email rather than just a forum. Remember I started this place as a place for owners to chat about their cars, its not a TMS revenue earner (despite what some people think) and I don't trawl around just answering questions from potential customers. If someone was thinking of spending £££ on their car I'd expect a call to discuss it.

I'd say give it a go. These days some people fine it's easier and better to type 'when they can' rather than hold a real-time conversation, especially if they are doing other things during the day.... Plus it means you don't have the phone hopping off the bench all day!

Yeah but then we have the issue of the quality of the PX engine, we used to do head swaps like that, but so many were sub standard (cracked usually) that we gave up and actually modify the supplied head.

How much difference is there between the sand cast SAAB heads and the NA ones? I know Dude was running one on his race car.

since machining ops are needed both for the ports and to fit the schick cams then it would be better to use as donar heads as they are a stronger material.

Speedster does the engine you got off Dude use these?

Yeah, I got the SAAB head OK. It's configured with SAAB turbo cams. The sand cast gives the head a smoother finish on the inner surfaces, less air friction I reckon.

The main advantage of the sand cast head is the material is much stronger than the lost foam casting used on the z22se.

Do you know if there's any other mods needed to fit it to the z22se?

No modifications that needs any bigger efforts to solve.
A cover for the end of the other camshaft. Z22Se has 1 long and one short cam and SAAB has 2 long ones.
A new valvecover.

Beside that i dont see any more to do.

The head itself nor the material are stronger; just that lost foam cast heads tend to have kind of crevasses from which cracks start under heavy stress :)

I'm seeking a sand cast head too because I have some major headwork to do, but not easy to find

Also, Thorney, if only you can sell the full ITB kit minus the Webcon ECU, I would have already bought it, I saw on Webcon site they offer these kind of "Induction kits" for other engines, why not for us ?
No dealer to custom map this in France, plus my engine will constantly be upgraded and no possibility to map this myself... well, I don't like this ECU at all :(

The head is much stronger due to the way its casted.
The SAAB head has thicker roofs in the combustion chambers.

What would a fair price be on a complete SAAB head?
I might get a hand on a couple of new or nearly new from the engine lab.

Hi Winstar
have you got a copy of this "GM SPORT COMPACT Performance Build Book" ? If not i'll put it on CD and stick it in the post, makes great bed time reading (sad, I know).

This is the part you need :)
For applications over 1000 hp GM Racing recommends the
use of GM Racing part number XGH614. This is a CNC
ported version of the LSJ 2.0L head. The LSJ head is sand
cas aluminum. The head is machined with matching
receiver groove for the 3.500 bore block. The LSJ cylinder
head does not require chamber reinforcement (staking) like
the lost foam head. There are bosses cast in the water jacket
which support the No. 1 and No. 4 combustion chamber
walls. (Fig. 165)

Cheers

Niko

Doh, was unaware about that, sorry guys

Oviously I'd deeply prefer an empty head (or with damaged/partial valvetrain) as I have a complete Schrick kit sitting on my desk, does this look possible to you too ? Imnotworthy
