absolutely stunning photos! Yeah what's the new camera!? I've just ordered a Canon EOS 350 d, awaiting delivery. Can't wait!

It is a 350D Great camera, although I found the kit lens pretty rubbish (as in, the lens was the weak link in my photos). Which was annoying, because it meant I ended up spending 350 quid on a 28-135mm IS lens just after buying the 500 quid camera! With the new lens it's brill though, definitely flatters the photographer! Also borrowed a friend's 28mm Canon prime lens which I took a couple of the shots with. Also used a Velbon Ultra Luxi F tripod for those shots - a decent tripod is really a necessity for night-time pics. I got mine for 70 quid from, of all places, Jessops - it's on special offer there and I highly recommend it, for 70 quid it's a bargain.

can only repeat everyone elses comments.. what a great meet. I was following a tvr sagaris most of the night which sounded amazing through the tunnels, thought my ears would bleed lol No problems with the police at all, and my rear number plate seemed to stay on fine even though i had only stuck it on earlier that day. good to see some new faces and familier ones. cheers for the tea sam. joe

going to spend a few days reading the manual I think, found EOS REBELS WEBSITE was useful when deciding what camera to get

I saw that VX in the flesh, I have to say it looks worse if anything than in that photo (apologies to the owner if he's on here). I really didn't like it at all.

Snoop, I've got a 350D but didn't take it on Saturday. What exposure/speed (generally) were you using or were you using the auto functions? Any advice would be appreciated as I may then take my camera out in the dark. Matt

Definitely not using the auto settings. I was using it on aperture priority at around f/8, which gets the sharpest photos with my lens - it's worth finding out what aperture gives the sharpest shots for a given lens if you don't know - best way is to use a tripod to take shots of something detailed at varying apertures. Then you can use the sweet spot of your lens when required. Then, as it's dark, you need to do a tradeoff between exposure time and ISO setting. Basically, the ISO setting of the camera determines how sensitive it is to light - but the tradeoff is noise in the image. Ideally you'd always use ISO100, but that's not always practical. For example, on the Ford GT shot, which was taken on the bridge from across the road, the traffic was quite heavy, so I needed to set ISO 800 for that shot to bring the exposure time down to a couple of seconds. This meant I was able to take the photo in a gap in the traffic (while the lambo shot with the car trails on is pretty, it's not always the effect you want!) On the other hand, the shot of the Plymouth Prowler was taken from the pavement, so there was no issue with having a long exposure - if anything, it's preferable, as it'll make anyone passing between the camera and the subject virtually disappear. So for that shot I used ISO 100, which required a 10 second exposure. As I said before, you really do need a tripod - obviously you're not going to get either a 2-second or a 10-second exposure without blur if you hand-hold it. If you don't have a tripod, or really can't use one in the situation, you'll need to whack the ISO up to 1600 and use the lowest aperture your lens supports - in light conditions like on the bridge that should get you down to 1/3rd of a second exposure, which is verging on hand-holdable with practice. You'll end up with a photo with a lot of noise though, and inevitably some motion blur. Also, I found that the camera just couldn't get the white balance right - most of the shots 'off-camera' came out with a horribly strong orange cast, due to the sodium lighting. In this situation it's well worth shooting in RAW mode rather than JPEG - this gives you hugely more flexibility when it comes to post-processing. The bundled Canon software allows you to fiddle with the white balance from the comfort of your PC afterwards, which you really can't do with JPEG. I also use Noisegate Community Edition on photos taken with a high ISO setting - it does a fantastic job of clearing up the noise on the picture without losing any sharpness. Let me know if you have any more questions - I don't profess to be an expert, but I'm happy to share what I know!

That would be my VX. I love the paint job but it's cool if you guys don't. I think it sets the car off really well. Also it's unique, different but looks like it could have come like that out of the factory. But thats just my opinion! If you want more pics I will post some up for you!

About time we had another tunnel run me thinks. I can still remember this, both sides of Chelsea bridge were full with parked cars. Took forever to get going but great fun despite the rain. Where are all these fun cars now? Sadly were down to slightly fewer cars and Sunday mornings are the only times streets are quiet. Last time I went out we made use of out of town tunnels and included some fun country lanes. Great fun and a good crowd.

The owner i bought my vx from spoke about attending some of the tunnel runs, said they were great

We've organised a few of them over the years, but the main protagonist has moved away I think.  The roads are just too busy at all times now with the advent of Uber and the condition of the roads in london are dire tbh.

 

If we could get enough people perhaps we could organise another one... Casino, was it Bargi who had the route worked out to get max tunnels ending at Ace Cafe for breakfast?
