Steve how long did you own it before the blind person  :beat:  trashed it?

Interested to know if it was costly to run or not

It was registered in August 94 & I was one of the sad gits that gave a touch over list price too buy it secondhand rather than wait for a year plus to get a new one  . That was about April/May 95 & it had done about 800 miles.

It was killed in Feb 2000 (first time out the garage that year & looked mint) with just under 15000 miles on the clock.

My last service at Baines Racing (Silverstone) Imnotworthy cost over £600 but that was when the kevlar cambelts & some of the other parts cost a fortune. But I'd had the suspension & engine management 'tuned' in that price.Baines were not an official Ducati dealer but a far better specialist.

Servicing was nothing compared with what I use to spend on carbon fibre & other parts B) . As you might be able to tell from the piccie.

Original airbox broke up (common fault on early ones) & for some reason or other warranty wouldn't cough up,so I stopped using Duke dealers early on.
Clutch seals'popped' but I could do those DIY & I replaced the clutch anyway.
Something electrical went on the way to it's 2nd MOT (rectifier? (sp) again a commom fault)
It wouldn't start at Mallory Park after a BSB round (most embarassing & a bike mechanic who was there helped me to get it going).

That was about it in nearly five years, the fun & pleasure far out weighed cost & niggles.

Editted to add: Forgot to mention how bad the brakes were on the early ones,in the picture the only thing original on the front brakes were the calipers.I'd changed the discs, pads, hoses, master cylinder & lever.

Cmon guys, surely we are more about performance than looks! :D
916's cost the earth to run, maintain, service and everywhere you go you will be slaughtered by jap 600 supersports! (especialy when your head bolts have snapped and your pushing it home! :) ) :( poof
Good in its day but time stands still for no-one!
Stunning bikes though! Imnotworthy

The bit about time not standing still is true, but I had the 916 for the last 5 summers of the nineties, the R6 didn't appear til 99.Through a decent set of bends that we'd have a fair idea of where they went mates with Blades & ZX7R's could be left behind only for the Blades to fly past on the straights

Ouch! :( Had a similar thing happen to me in 1996 when Miss Patel decided to turn right into a No Right Turn and wiped me and my CBR400RR out. Following the accident, or should I say incident as she didn't "accidently" turn right, they built a long traffic island at that location so it couldn't happen again. I must see if I can fin the pictures of the bike.

A cleanup, chain adjustment and lube might be done at weekend hopefully with a new can being fitted. Going to also get a Power Commander, whilst I had my bike RR'd the other month the bloke said it wasn't worth me fitting the PC as when he's setting it up he'd have to strip all the fairing back down anyway, is he having me on? Very respected tuner in the bike world, can't remember the name of the place off hand but it's in Abridge if that rings any bells.
