I'm currently looking at joining sheds are us :D I sold my megane 225 to get my VX, To be fair the big drop in practicality hasnt really bothered us as I have a van to use for anything bigger than a VX220 holdall ;) but the wife has to park in a multi storey car park sometimes, that and the fact that winters looming has made up my mind so we're off to look at a saxo 1.1 tomorrow lol Its quite an eye opener actually just how much car you can get for about a grand

Well chuffed with my winter shed this year :jump: 1997 Renault Laguna 1.8 RL, Europa blue (ish) B) 142k miles on the clock :o Not bad for £300 with MOT until May and 4 good tyres. The heater feels like the VX - ie no heat. Looks like the thermostat is stuck open, otherwise nothing to complain about. Amazing what there is kicking around for <£500. Think it makes better sense to look for a large car as they are less in demand. Also small cars tend to be built more down to a price. Good luck shed hunting everyone!!!

The sunroof started leaking on my 205 this morning. Does that qualify me for sheds-r-us? :D

The corsa has a small leak in the footwell  Another thing to fix. Took all the electrics out on sat and replaced them. Also replaced on board 'computer'(although it doesn't compute much  ) so i can now see the radio station, temp, date and time  Meant taking the dash out though, so took a bit longer than i had anticipated spending on it. Oh and the new display cost 10 quid from the local scrapy. :D fixed the rattles at the same time. Result

This won't help now Ant, but for future ref, and esp in the case of the corsa diesel engine, the filter is perfectly located to stick a screw driver through it and rotate. Always works, just don't insert the screw driver too close to the fiter thread to avoid damaging it. hope things get sorted out soon. When is the vx going to plans?

:( Yep saw the pics, and i suspect they'll put a new clam on it. IMO that might be the silver linning, because the damage isn't that bad to have caused anything underneath (touch wood) and so with new clam, you'll have a chipless vx front end which will be rather nice. the std Plans work to is excellent, i've seen a few of their repairs and a few of their (clam) replacements and i think you have nothing to worry about. thumbsup In the meantime hope you manage to get the filter off the corsa, now that its probably baggered. On the plus side - full corsa service including semi-sythetic oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel fillter (pita) = 30 quid! thumbsup

i was wondering what i could do about the stonechips, so a new clam is one answer

it's just a bit of a bugger that it happened on the way to my Gramps' burial :( especially with the rest of the sh1t shower i'm currently stuck in :( )

fuel filter is a POP. i've got used to changing it as i've been suffering from 'larding'- not leaving the cooking oil to dry for long enough before bunging it in the tank.

will get a new (non chain) filter wrench from halfrauds later and sort it thumbsup

yup. rabbiteater thumbsup i'm going to ask if the PLANS guys can do a couple of bits while it's with them, armourfend is probably a good idea :)

warning over pug 106s. if it's a 1.4 diesel you may find your life evaporating while you wait for it to get to 60mph :(

Yey! another regular on the sheds- r-us thread! Bit expensive though

106 diesel probably faster than my corsa (non T).

I actually found myself lusting after the 1.7td in the scrapy on the week end :beat: :beat:

Not sure if this counts as a shed - but I certainly hope so...

I'm picking up my Aunt's old Mondeo Estate 1.7 LX (R reg) in two weeks 133,000 on the clock.

back in the shed this morning. blew £8.99 :o on my new filter pliers from halfrauds last night. thought i'd take a step up from the £3.99 version  one thing i can't believe is just how scrotum twingingly awful modern cars are. i can honestly say that the con(fusion) i had was abysmal, even compared to the shed. other renters/ courtesy cars have been just as awful (save for the PLANS smart B) ) the fusion was huge (for what it was) awful to park and thirsty. by comparison the shed's a beaut*. it's still a million miles away from how good the vx is tho  makes you realise just how great it is to have a PROPER car to get about in. one where the feel of the brakes, steering etc is so important Imnotworthy *the shed is still too big/ heavy when compared to something the age of a mk1 golf. they just don't build em like they used to

Yey! good ol'shed. :D

Said it over and over, but say it once more, the best mod for the vx is a shed, makes it feel really fast and very special.

As for modern cars i couldn't agree more. I basicly don't understand why people do it. I had a Focus the other day 06 1.6 and honestly i probably would have managed to keep up with it in the corsa. ok, it had electric windows, air con etc etc, but the heater, radio, comfort really wasn't up to much more than the shed.

so you get half the economy, twice the tax, double the insurance, 50% depreciation over 3 years (call it 6.5k), servicing costs etc etc etc for what?

i forgot to add... the shed's heater is less effective than the vx's :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
