A headligt bulb went in my Mondeo shed a couple of days ago. 79p for the new bulb, this Shedding could be a religion! Could there be a cheaper part for a car?

finally picked up my shed - chavalier 1.8 - cost so far £140 to buy with 6 months mot and tax... £300 insurance for the year. I'll save more than that in petrol over the winter compared to driving the VX!

downsides:

having to lock the car from the boot!
washer bottle leaks
sunroof leaks apparently
overheats if sat for more than an hour in traffic
almost falling off the armchair seat going round corners...

gives a new appreciation of how important the racing line is though :D

Found a bargain shed for sale today near my office - red Rover 400 (dunno year, engine or mileage but who cares anyway!) £350! Bargain MY collegue just sold his completely mint mk1 Toyota MR2 for £500!! If I had known it was for sale I would have bought it - awesome shed! It really was mint without even a scratch on it in red.

Given the corsa away :( ... ... to my sister, who is at uni and was using my Mk2 fiesta. When i had a go in it again over christmas it really did bring 'shedding' to a whole new level. so its retired (although will keep it going). i better get this alfa working...

Hows it all going James, are you very far away from finishing it now? I've been pondering this Alfa we have in at work all Christmas but I think I'll give it a miss, not beause of the car though, just becase my cirumstances are ever changing and I need to get a smaller diesel with the miles I'm doing I think.

The Mondeo got a new MOT this week. It failed at first and needed two front brake discs. Once they were in, a new MOT right through to January 2008! If I keep it that long, I reckon it will have done about 165k. I wont keep it that long I'm sure though. Currently on 141k. Keep on shedding...

I am afraid that i may not be playing to the full rules of shedding... i cleaned the Polo today, and polished out a few scratches  This all came about due to looking on Autotrader at similar cars to see what the prices are doing, and they dont seem to be dropping :) so thought i has better take a bit of care of it for when it comes time to sell. Quite impressed with how it cleans up

Here are the pics,

Right fellow shedders, my Mk4 Polo is in need of some work me thinks. The main things that need doing are the front discs and pads, maybe the brake fluid as i dont think its ever been changed  part(s) of the exhaust as it seems to have got pretty loud at motorway speeds, and maybe even the Cambelt.

Do any of you pro-shedders think any of these are easy enough for someone to do that can just about hold a spanner, and has a fairly logical brain. I haven't ever really done any work on cars so i would class myself as a novice.

I was thinking i should be able to change discs and pads and maybe brake fluid with some background reading and advice. Does this sound reasonable? This probably sounds stupid to some of the people that can change a cambelt in 15 mins :P

Thanks :)

I havent updated on my shed for a while - nothing interesting to report!!

So, Rover 214 P reg demo and one owner, 42000 and 8 months tax for £350!!! I have now owned it for 15 months and done 18000 miles :tt:

Costs:
  • New zorst £100 fitted
  • New front discs/pads, £40 on ebay and £40 fitting
  • 1 MOT - brake bulbs and some shorted wires in tailgate £50
  • 2 minor services and 1 major costing £80 and £200 respectively at nationwide. I paid for these with Tesco vouchers (4:1) so effectively cost me £20 each and £50 thumbsup
  • 1 new front and utilised the spare as it has never been used in 10 years - £45
  • I do 100 miles a day (mainly motorway) and i get 40mpg or 10p pm
  • 2nd year insurance is £180 in my mothers name plus £30 cashback via quidco
  • Some k-seal - the water leak has now virtually gone
  • New quality wipers - £25 for 3
  • New "xenon" headlight bulbs as the others were like candles - were 2 for 1 @ halfords (my best mod!)
  • New sony stereo with MP3, £45 - Argos missprice, £100 everywhere else!
  • Found a wheel trim so that saved a tenner!
Issues:
  • has developed a v small oil leak
  • still has cracked screen but it passed MOT so who cares.
  • Rear wiper has a mind of its own. Front doesnt return to the bottom without manual help. No probs
  • Sometimes the immobiliser wont switch off straight away - one day its going to leave me stranded
Heres to hopefully another few years of button motoring thumbsup

i did my cambelt, waterpump, and thermostat on my corsa last week, 16 quid waterpump, 7 quid belt and 4 quid thermostat, oddly enough there was no thermostat in the car to begin with.... Temp guage now appears to be faulty * , im guessing previous owner thought it was overheating so took the thermostat out... considering the amount of work it is to just change the thing it was totally pointless.... quite scary tho, it sits in the red as normal temp ? fan kicks in when its off the scale! * unless i have the wrong temp sender (can anyone check if the sender is different on a 1.4 SPI corsa 1994?)

Nice :D Looking forward to the pics :P

Mine still drives fine (apart from the exhaust, obviously) it's just that it's damaged the bumper and the bonnet, which is probably enough to be more to repair than the value of the car. I'm only 3rd party so no insurance involved.

It was a bloody silly accident, and I only hit it at about 5mph but the tow bar just mullered my poor shed!

could have been worse. You could have been driving your now gone TVR. I have to say though tow bars are fantastic for having on the back of something solid. My dad's early 80's s'class saloon has one. I have no problem with people tailgating me when I'm in that. Anyway you could always get a new shed? Could you not get bits from a salvage yard to repair it? Surely you'd get extra "shedding" points for have different colour panels to the rest of the car? :P

Well I went out to it at lunch and found that the bumper had popped back out by itself, pretty much back into shape  So all I need now is a bonnet - and yes I'll probably get one from a breakers but I really can't handle the embarrassment of a different coloured one, it's bad enough driving a Rover in the first place.

but it'll make your rover such a chick magnet to have a metallic green bonnet on a dark blue car :D

Did the landrover suffer any damage? And did you actually stop and talk to the owner? :poke:
