yup :D Good you see you chaps again and Nic. I thought TTs new shed fitted in well thumbsup :P My bloody shed! I took the servo out today (which meant the removal of the pedal box, wiper motor and assembly),that took a couple of hours and then i had to do it all again in the scrap yard. They offered to do it for 5 quid, but thats nearly 10 liters of fuel so i declined. In the end it only took me 30min the second time round (including the cutting of a few corners). 25 quid for a new servo. Rain has stopped play now so i can't put it back together again. I really hope that fixes it though because after that it can only be the vacum pump and that looks expensive.

brake servo yesterday, exhaust today. It's what you get for only paying 200 quid for a car. Loving the fact that the parts cost so little though. Centre section exhaust: 17 Great British pounds. :D

just ground down the driver's sill and rustproofed, primed and resprayed it, as well as undersealing the driver's side floorpan. bad news is that whilst i was under there i noticed a great deal of fairly well advanced tinworm :( really don't think that the shed is likely to get a new MOT come november. looks like it requires a new driver's side lower suspension mounting bracket panel/ front of the chassis leg welding, as well as work around the driver's side inner wheel arch (where it meets the floorpan) :( i think i'll drop it into my friendly local MoT place for a diagnosis, if it's had it i'll be in the market for a new gls td. James, i may need your help!!!

wouldn't be so sure mate. the tin has rusted and fractured. it will need patches welded at the least. that's if i can find someone willing to do it at a reasonable price :(

you ever welded upside down? it's a fcuking b1tch. i had a mate (unfortunately now RIP) who could weld absolutely anything! i'm not joking, he was like one of those cuban guys you see on tv who could make a pattern of a panel out of cardboard and then make the thing from steel better than the original... i'll be happy to let you have a go James, we'll have to reccy the situation sometime :) how's the new zorst?

Sitting in the back or the Megane waiting to be fitted this evening.

Bloody vauxhall make the cat and centre section one piece. All i need is the centre so i'm going to have to cut the one on there and then mate it to the new section. It's all straight forward as that is how the centre section was designed (with a female connection) so it should all just slide together. we'll see.

I’ll let you know how i get on later, if this f**king rain would appease a little

I got so cross on Saturday as i was putting the brake servo in. You have to take the wiper assembly apart and the plastic cowling around the wipers has to come off too. so with the bonnet up, just as i had the servo out (i.e. a gapping whole into the passenger compartment) the heaven opened. Not only did that fill the footwell but it also got in through the pollen filter (which i should have changed as its a little hard to get to).

Driving to tescos that evening, i thought "hey lets have a little demisting", as you can imagine the water in the system turned to steam and the whole car became a sauna in under 10 seconds. And, in the process totally blinding me.

All that to say that i was not best pleased

(first time in a year) anyway, exhaust done, now I have a slow puncture in one of the new tyres. and a rattling gear stick for which I have a new one, just need to fit it. and then finally I need to source a rattle from the dash. testing shed this week.

Excellent thread, makes very interesting reading. My current 'shed' is a 94 merc C220, ex taxi that has had an LPG conversion, few bumps and scrapes but fantastic car for the money - £850 from a local auction a year ago.

If this ever dies I do fancy the idea of the cooking oil 300D. Interesting, tongue in cheek, article here from a few years back: http://www.guardian....,807299,00.html

Dependant on your view of budget tyres (mine is that on the basis you have a contact patch with the road from all 4 tyres the same area as the palm of your hand, then thay ought to be semi-decent) I got uniroyal rain tyres for 35 each fitted the other day.

thats not bad, the tyres that are on are looking particularly "shagged" so itll have to be new rubber, ill see what they have when i go. odd thing was i never noticed the tyre had gone, i assumed the noise was the diesel engine until it started getting louder and louder :D first time ive ever had a blow out

No matter how bad my shed is I always buy decent tyre as said at the end of the day it's the contact point with the road. Costco do Michelins at very good prices on which note my boss said that veg oil is now 49p/l for 20l drums in the Leeds one.
