bit of mechanical advise req :)

Should i get the rover fixed?? Had a quote of £400 for a new land rover HG, water pump, thermostat, timing belt, oil and coolant

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...em=180201189645 - gets good feedback and is mentioned on the rover forum... But there is always a chance the head will be FUBAR and its then more money down the drain thumbsdown

edit - i could sell it knackered on ebay for £100+. Or with new HG it should be worth £500

I'd say you might as well get a new shed for the £400+£100 for selling it knackered. However they do say better the devil you know...

i'm trying to find a diesel shed for £3000 and seems to be about the worst budget you can have. 5k gets a lot of nice things 3k gets all the things that should be 1k or less. corsa b diesel for example, very similar to my £200 shed, 4 years newer with an airbag and central locking, people are asking £1500-2500. WTF is that all about. Ant, question for you, is the 1.7 in the early corsa c, before the 1.3cdti the isuzu engine? Because i rather like the little isuzu so would be happy with one of them.

The other thing i'm struggling with is that are going to sell Katy's car which we bought for 2k and that has in the last 20k miles: -never let us down -always passed MoTs for the std £45 -and has generally been very good. Its just not quite economical enough for a 90 miles a day commute.

i'm trying to find a diesel shed for £3000 and seems to be about the worst budget you can have.

I sold my Polo shed for £2000 (bought for £800 1.5 years and 15,000 miles earlier thumbsup ) and bought a 2000 Bora TDI for £3200 with 112,000 miles on. Unfortunately it needed a new turbo a couple of weeks later which made it less of a barain, but I was just particularly unlucky thumbsdown

Its great :) Its got the 115 PD engine with the 6 speed box. I dont know if it is any good for vegging, but I'm not doing that at the moment. It has all the usual VW comforts and also because its the SE spec it has rain sensing wipers and auto dipping rear view mirror. Two things I had never missed until you have them and realise how great they are!

Its pretty good on fuel too. I once averaged 62mpg from Reading to East Grinstead, but usually get about 55mpg on the motorway, and even if you drive like a twat you still get 46ish. And it is so relaxing on long motorway drives thumbsup

Its quite cheap to maintain too. I'm doing an oil service with the help of Slindborg tomorrow and the oil, filter and the seals came to £42 all from VW thumbsup

James, the post 99 1.7d is a di isuzu, all the smaller vauxhall diesel units are thumbsup the ride and handling in the corsa c is abysmal, for a more modern car than the b it's hard to believe they made all the same mistakes with the handling thumbsdown , looks like it took them until the corsa d to get it right

For the grand sum of ............. £100!

:o that is stupidly cheap! Thats a good £4000 - £5000 worth of car!! Why were they willing to just give away that amount of money?

Well here on the Island, over 55k is considered high mileage!
Selling used cars is not easy here and tends to take months unless you give them away.
Cars at that price and size are not popular, people tend to want cheap small cars and people looking for that style of car would buy a better one. My friends selling the car are not short of money and didn't really think anyone would want a 6 year old Passat that was full of water and mould. They had put it into a local garage who couldn't fix the leaks  and so had given up with the car.

I did take about 12 litres of water out of the car but found all the info online to sort out the leaks. I've been in Scotland all last week at a wedding and the car seems no worse so it looks like the leaks are sorted, I just have the musty/mould/damp smell to get rid of now.

what a shedding week! what with the vx getting run into on monday and then the gear linkage breaking on the shed! just been and fitted the bush that needed replacing in the gear linkage, £4.07 would have saved me a LOAD of hassle if i'd known how shot the old one was :beat: . having pointed the part out to the guy at poxall i'm not even remotely surprised that the corsa b has a shitty rubbery gearchange, it has the least direct mechanism i've ever seen!! James, might be worth doing yours if you get a sec, especially if you think your gearchange is getting vague, save you a lot of hassle in the dark/ by the side of the road, trust me ;)

the 1.7 turbo was never fitted to the corsa so something is not quite right there. i suspect its a 1.7D, good but not as good at the 1.5 TD. and its about £1000 too dear.

great stuff thumbsup depending on how a job interview goes tomorow (5 minute commute rather than 60+ mins) the vx may be going, replaced by a 306 diesel for the time being :o

Update on my free shed: it is a ZX 1.9D, not a BX (boss didn't know the difference!) Bit depressing as I fancied another angular plastic style icon on my drive... Anyway, I can't start it. Charged battery up, electrics work, tries to turn over, plug light comes on and goes off, but no ignition. As I know nothing about diesels (except that they don't use sparks!), I am lost. I need some help to analyse the problem before deciding whether to spend money (and what on). Bump starting is I guess a no-no. Anyone?
