I'm selling my VXT soon, and will be getting a shed. Although I will no longer own a VX220, would I still be allowed to post in this thread?

Huntingdon Performance tyres in Godmanchester are about the cheapest in our area, ring for a quote before you go.

Just realised the new shed has done 5k miles since the 2th of may!! (the vx has done 5k miles in 24months )

Not quite as cheap to service as the corsa either. cambelt on the corsa was £17 :D

the kit for the volvo is £120 includes two belts, three tentioners and a stretch bolt for the crank pulley.
I've a feeling the procedure could be be fairly exciting

JG you've got an audi engine in your shed at a guess - it's not too bad a job to do. I've got an old audi with the same engine and recently done the belts. A word of warning is be very careful about pump timing they through a hissy fit if it's not right.

On a seperate one my derv fuel economy has been falling right off recently, used to do 45ish now down to 35ish, it's have new tires that are slightly wider than the old ones but i wouldn't expect it to make that much difference. Anyone got any other suggestions - already clean intercooler, inlet manifold, blanked of egr and changed air filter.... Also noticed it seems quite smokey (black soot)

I have the same problem on my citroen - after replacing the cat it was good for a while but has started smoking gradually more again - is your cat blocking up? a citroen forum bod has suggested EGR valve, worth a try I guess - now to find where it is and where I can get one, what does blanking it achieve?

Another shed update.. My merc just had it's 195,000 mile service, treated it to new plugs, fluids and pads all round, plus a tyre as the tracking is a bit out. Also had to get a rear spring for it as the original one had given up the ghost - that cost £22.50 plus roland rat. Runs like a dream now, getting roughly about 10 miles to the litre thumbsup The dashboard appears to be having a stroke though, bits have stopped working on the left hand side - intermittent wipe, bulbs and the outside temp gauge.

This simply means (as you may know already) that it is running too rich. You've already done most of the things to check, but it could bad fuel economy could certainly be a blocked CAT. Diesels can pass an MOT without a cat anyway (its all done on particulate emissions) so you could try that?

You could possibly have a boost leak between the turbo and inlet manifold. Its usually best to listen out for a hissing noise whilst driving or revving the engine.

Also check tyre pressures ofcourse.

My old TDi Ibiza ran like a different car on some fuel types - stay clear of supermarket crap as you dont usually know where its come from. Stay to high volume decent branded fuel stations.

Hi Anton,
I do indeed have the Audi engine. i've just done the cam belts and it wasn't too hard. The only really slight pain is the stretch bolt for the crank pulley. 220Nm + 180 degrees nearly killed me.
The pump is much easier on the volvo as the engine is transverse so access is very good. trying to get to the back of the Audi for the pump is a right PITA.

Its all going well, i'm not so scared aboyut putting my foot down now with the new belts and pulleys, so i'm not getting 50mpg either. Although i think i am getting in the low to mid 40s.

the shed is making a most godawful noise under acceleration above 70mph at the moment (this is on a private road obviously) it seems to literally only happen under acceleration, but is coming from the nearside front of the car, where there actually isn't any engine. one would assume that if it were a cv joint/ or wheel bearing, for example, the noise would be constant...? nearside front tyre has a random gouge out of it as well, eep, expense!

volvo is good, service light is still on tho James, did you find out anything about that? ;) :poke: i'm currently organising my production of biodiesel and i have heard some good reports of that garage near you that sells bio James, which i'll happily relay to you via email/ pm if you want to drop me a line? i have to say that the volvo is the most soul- destroyingly bland/ bad car to drive though! if the vx ever gets sold (to a newb happy to buy a properly looked after car instead of a cheap one that they then have to post endless questions about how to fix  ) i think i'll have to buy a 205GTi or something as a toy, i hate being this detached from proper driving :(

Hehe, I know what you mean. Perfect complement to a VX or a Gti though. Still unsure of bio-ing my volvo. Although would be interested to heat about the guy next door to me that sells it.
