nothing wrong with it - if it makes a slight noise as you select each gear then the sycromeshes are all probably a bit worn. If it makes a contiuous noise the main shaft bearings have probably seen better days. If it makes a noise when you have you foot on the clutch it could the spigit (sp?) bearing (which picks up the clutch when it disengages with the engine) None of these are a paticular worry and almost certainly wont let you down. So keep the car! :D

cool, i was only joking about chucking it away. i just refuse to spend any more money on it. i had to have the engine apart twice as it was smoking heavily. once to change the valve seals (which i thought was causing it and reduced the smoking a LOT) then to change one of the piston rings from a compression ring to a scraper ring as some w@nker had just stuck a comp ring on instead of what it needed. :9mm:

it also needs four new glowplugs, but as it works on compression i just keep turning it over until it fires anyway. you should see the sh1t that comes out of it when it does start

that reminds me. must look at, clean, polish and then rag the vx this weekend thumbsup

Well the gearbox oil seals are done on the shed, no more leaking: So far it has cost £6.80 Gets a bit warm at 80mph on the motorway in this weather, two solutions: -cause is a slightly blocked radiator; replacement is about 50 quid -drive with the heater on and the windows down and its perfect  i'll sort it out properly eventually. :D

the shed was frowned at earlier. dropped to 50 odd mpg

i guess this answers one of the most often noob questions:

"yes, you can use the vx every day, but you'll eventually get complacent and need a shed to make you realise just HOW good the vx is!" thumbsup

my 1.4 has a lucas cav fuel pump. it'll get eaten alive by veg oil :( the general consensus seems to be that the lucas cav pump is only any good with 5% max veg oil added. i'm going to go the whole hog with biodiesel as soon as i can unfortunately i have (at the last count) of about 437 things i need to do before finishing my reactor. the pile of rubble i have in my kitchen is priority number 1 at the mo

yea, been reading up on it - some sites say "just chuck it in" Others are v specific about blending with acid, pumps, glow plugs, oil... Just chuck it in!! :drink: :drink: I am tempted to change, but, my rover shed is a good old girl really

my lodger* 'chucked it in' his clio 1.9d. now he's cleaned out all of his fuel lines, changed the pump and had his car off the road for a month plus he's going to do it the long way. there are two methods the 'svo/ wvo' way and the home- brew method. the titration (acid test) way is involved in the second way, but i guess this is me preaching to the choir. if the rover ain't broke, don't fix it thumbsup * i may have egged him on to do it

yea, your probaby right mate. For what it costs, there is probably a bigger downside of buying a new shed than saving a few quid on diesel/vege oil

other than being a total skinflint the other reason that i want to do the biodiesel thing is so i can sound w@nky and 'reduce my carbon footprint'. i feel really bad about driving the 60 miles as my round trip to work and back every day :( . i can't move/ change jobs until the girlf and i decide what we are going to do, but at least this way i can make sure i pollute less. the vx being kept as a hobby. ultimately i'd like to always run my main car on biodiesel thumbsup even when my main car is a landy, with labradors in the back, i own my enormous country estate and i spend sunday morning blowing my lunch out of the sky :P edit: oh and the few quid thing. i've worked out when i eventually get round to it, running the shed and filling it with bioderv will save me over a grand in fuel alone ( :o ) over running the vx as my commuter- mobile thumbsup mind you, you own a vxr, so that's probably pocket money to you cheeky :P ;)

blimey. i may have to remove my shed from this thread as it is too reliable/ economical/ MoT-worthy. it's been a while since i saw anything that shed-like. i'm sure it'll make a lovely garden ornament thumbsup note for next time, if you're selling the gravel from underneath it you may get more bites putting it in the gardening section of ebay :P ;)

I've just got the confirmation in that you have been nominated for the "Most Utterly Wanky Thing Said in 2006" award.

Carbon footprint? Please, for the love of God, tell me you're joking.
