Next ones hopefully going to be my mums company car (Honda Accord). Which has full leather parking sensors and camera sat nav and everything. Also at bargin price hopefully. That wont be for over a year though so roll on the vectra chinky chinky

All bets are off. P4cks wins by a mile with the shittest Proton ever. Combined with a Metro later on. thumbsup

 There is a story behind the the Proton... It was the worst (looking, mechanically it was faultless!) I could find and it was purchased from a forum member. I got a train down from Newcastle to Bedfordshire (I think) to pick it up. I also paid for my mate to come down with me, I was out on the lash the night before and I slept in and missed the train so I had to buy us both another pair of tickets. The car only cost me £175 but the tickets and petrol were considerably more than that.

Then when I came to sell the car was another story in itself...

Advertised for £375 ono in the Autotrader. Bloke comes to look at it, takes it round the block (literally) and then says it's a beauty(?!) and he'll have it. He said, "The thing is, I only have £170 cash", to which I thought was a decent enough offer and I was about to tell him he could have it there and then but he added "The rest I'll have to write you a cheque for". I actually LOL'd and said that was fine. I let him drive away there and then, and the cheque cleared some days after that. I was laughing for days after that! Funniest thing was was that he was buying it for his daughter as her first car. I suppose from that point the only way is up...

I remember it well mate!! I bought that car as a bit of a runaround the summer before from some bloke who had been given it to use in a charity rally. He had white stripes on it and an air horn!!

I did think at the time that you must've been mad spending all that on four train tickets from Newcastle, but I'm well pleased you made the money back when you sold it! Top work!

OK, I have to admit something. That was my third Proton in a row and I had a bit of a thing for them at the time. You couldn't fault them mechanically but they are awful to drive/look at!!

Ok Ok I have to admit I missed the £1k limit and therefore the Rover/MG is out. However whilst at Uni my housemate had an F-reg Astra (cost him £125). After being stolen 3 times with the tea-leaf pulling the top of the door away and pulling the door knob we de-locked the car and fitted it barrel locks as well as fitting brackets to the top edge of the door and locking it with Yale padlocks. The only bugger of it was when the padlocks seized up so the only entry to the vehicle was through the boot - though you always had to enter in the right order otherwise it would be 'all out for the driver'. The exhaust rotted like no tomorrow and we constantly patched it up with exhaust putty, slices of tin cans (usually ASDA Smartprice Beans) held in place with large metal clamps. When we took it for its MOT we had planned for it to Fail spectacularly and then be offered a small sum for it being scrapped. But the beggar passed it and did so the following year.

I've done that with some cars. The good old putty, coke can and a couple of jubilee clips!

Here's a question for the fellow shedders:

At what point do you accept the fact that a shed is dead and you cannot bodge anything else on it? Is it when it's running on 1 cyl and you can see the road through the footwell or is it simply that it'll cost more to get through an MOT than it will cost to buy a new shed?

Bang on; MOT cost vs. value of replacement shed.

For the record, I'm on the hunt for a new shed. My budget is £350, but there is no chance of eclipsing the Proton I'm afraid :(

OK well closer to £300, hopefully even less as I was trying to beat my record of £175 but I don't think that will ever happen, as this time I have a few criteria. Those being;

  • local
  • 1.2 or less
  • T&T'd
  • as hideous as possible

a 4x4 Panda would be an absolute dream in this weather! I've found that the majority of the hideous cars I would consider are all >1.6. Makes looking for a <1.2 hideous shed all that more difficult!

Right, after a horrible bang and a snaking rear end incident on the motorway I found that my Rear brake shoes had seperated and were slamming on my rear passenger side brake. Not pretty Managed to fix it for 17.24 though! Replaced both sides in 1.5hours. If any of you fellow shedders want a set of alloys for your car then I have a set you can have. 14" fox 5 spoke alloys (yes a full 14 inches!). They were on my Nova years ago! One of them has a kerb mark but the rest are in good nick. 2 have tyres but not much tread. I think the offset is about et36 because they stuck out and looked wide as! The price? 1 bottle of whisky! p.s. you will have to collect cause I can't be bothered shipping them.
