Right after moving house (soon I hope!!) I need "a shed" options are 1, metro 2, 206 (D) 3 corsa I quite like the metro idea:-) and apparently there is a one owner 14,000mile one near gf's dad thats mint! Is it ok to buy a car and run it into the ground.. making it a "shed" or does one need to purchase a pre-made "shed" ?

mine is alll repaired again and going strong. This time it cost nothing so i treated it to a new cam belt. Now just need to find the time to fit it. I'm really enjoying owning the shed - Its quite a lot of work and can get in the way of things, but the simplicity of working on it is fun. On top of that there is the constant game of trying to make it cost as little as possible. Great full economy, Zero depreciation, cheap tax and low insurance all helping. The bit i'm not very good at is when it comes to buying parts for it. For example faced with a choice of cam- belt, dunlop or manufacturer X, i went for the more expensive dunlop. It has Michelin tyres on it at the moment, that still have plenty of tread and i think i would find it hard to replace them with budget. gues its just one of those things. Anyway, its all bloody good fun :D smiler - how about the corsa 1.5 turbo D. 15bhp more than mine thumbsup but still cheap tax and ins.

People who haven't got a clue don't like Metros. They are wrong because Metros are ace. Can I heartily recommend a CVT one. They are hilarious. Fact to remember: Anyone who disagrees with me is very, very gay. Further to previous you might want to look for an elderly Ka which is my mutt of choice at the moment. They are a bit more expensive than Metros (mine was a grand) but at 95K absolutley bugger all has gone wrong with it except where the sump pan got biffed on a speed bump. They cost pennies to insure.

My shed's days may be numbered :( Found out today I could get a brand new Aygo for £83 a month. It'll almost save me that in petrol per month. Insurance is far cheaper and tax is about £40 a year as well. Haven't decided for sure yet (meant to have a pay rise soon so we'll see what that gives)

Autobytel are doing brand new ones for a smidgen over £6k >here<

Put £1000 deposit down, use their PCP over 4 years @ 10k a year and hey presto, £83 a month. That's pretty much £1000 a year and my shed could quite easily consume that in extra petrol, tax, insurance and inevitable things going wrong

Anyone want a nice blue Rover 416?

Edit: they have brand new Kas even cheaper!

As i said in the other thread, i actually really like mine :o

Send away, i can bore you back as much as you like.

And for the record mine only cost 280 quid and has never let me down properly - its doing 500 miles a week at the moment and it can do that on one tank for 38 pounds. averages regardless of how i drive it 55-65mpg.

The history goes something like this.
1993 - Vauxhall introduce the corsa diesel, 1.5L The one i have. 50bhp 0-60 in about 16secs. Its not fast but it will maintain 80mph on the motoway up and down the hills.
1995- they add a turbo to the same lump which adds 15bhp. Ecomomy is virtually unaffected.
1997- Isusu release the 1.7 and as an option you can have it turbo charged i think the 1.7 is about 60bhp and the T: 75.

To my knoweldge the pug 106 and the 1993-1997 corsa are the only small hatches that fit into the current cheap tax band (<1600cc) so if you want to sick to cheap tax you don't have a lot of choice.

The nice thing about it being a Vauxhall too is that parts are easly availlable and cost peanuts. Its also very easy to work on. Mine has had a few issues but none of them really major. The engines themselve are probably rather nicely engineered (esp. as its japanese) i've know a 1.7 (which is the same engine as the 1.5 bored out) do 250k miles and they forgot to give it a service in the last 50k.

HTH

P.SI need to start a corsa diesel site. :P

P.P.S i have the stereo code for a 1994 corsa if you need it. :D

P.P.P.S for 700 quid you can get a really nice one.

Actually the lack of sheds anywhere is quite suprising. As you said Ant, Egay has very few and the trader seams to only have posh sheds. :( Makes mine look like a bit of a bargain :D (touch wood, nothing else going wrong for now)
