yep same here. friends can't understand why i could posibly want 2 un-reliable cars (even though i keep telling them the vx has been 100% reliable, its just had a lot of warranty work to fix the niggles, hence 9 weeks at dealers in one year). the usual coment is that i could have a nice 3 series or even an early boxster. I think they think i'm being nationalist and want an english car, which is pretty much the last thing i would consider. anyway it all makes sence to me. I think... but yep we own 2 vauxhalls - i'm ashamed.

Just done the Cam belt on the corsa. I had no history as to how old it was. I know it had a new (second-hand) engine, but didn't know how many miles that had done when it went in. So, in a moment of weakness i decided to give a new belt. quite easy - although i did get the haynes out for it. took most of the morning to do, but the corsa has a fairly clever way of preventing any movement of the cam, crank and fuel pump shafts. thumbsup Going to give it a quick service tomorrow - oil, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter. :D This shed had never known it better! so far it owes me: Haynes: £18.99 gearbox oil seal:£6 Radiator: £80 cam belt: £17 so just shy of 130 quid to make it reliable (touch wood) . Can't really fault that.

Nearly had a disaster today! Gave the shed it monthly water topup (had a v slow leak since i had it), just as i was finishing a dog started to run around me... Shouted "shoo" a couple of times! :P Got in the car, buggered of and was on the DC when i had a moment "did i put the lid back on the expansion tank??" Thought about it and pulled over - opened bonnet and cap was still sitting on the side - phew!! Think i am going to have to sell the shed :( - moving offices so will go from a 50 mile to a 120 round trip. going to get a diesel - do i go company car? or an older merc/VW i can run on vegetable oil!! :groupjump:

try either clickety click or clickety clickety . there are many many diesel sheds to choose from. old mercs are bullet proof and being old mercs they still have a few creature comforts. if you want a newer car there are loads that can run on pretty much 100% wvo with very little tinkering.

edit: theoretically my corsa td could run on pretty much 100% wvo in all but very cold weather on a single tank system. especially with the fuel taken to the fuel pump via a heat exchanger (also known as a length of copper pipe bolted to the turbot) fixed in place.

btw, it's a well known fact that with the corsas the turbot is MUCH better than the na :P

Apparantly it was crashed and then left for 3 years in a barn full of chickens. So not dust.. much much worse.

yep, been looking at the 1st forum - thanks for the other link thumbsup

There isnt much choice for newer cars though  - all the newer DI diesels are too high pressure for the viscosity of the vege oil. Also lucas pumps are a no-no, bosch is best... Older mercs, VW 1.9's, the pug XUD9 engine.

I quite fancy an old merc 300D estate running on vege B)

yep, you need to heat/distill/blend with loads of chemicals - will have a garage but not big enough for the vxr and a chemical plant!

mine's going in the back garden. up until then i'll be running 50/50 until i get the time to sort out the reactor properly. if not the merc then how about a late-ish vw TDI? they should be ok... only thing is i'm not too sure how computerised the injection pumps are and the what intolerance this gives towards the fuel....
