Only a pushbike Giant Cadex 890i carbon frame, 21-speed, light all-terrain bike. Bit like a Speedster really – small, light, performs better than many bigger, heavier models. :)

Yes! Heard it so many – too many – times. And this is why I don't have a motorbike.

I have had too many bikes to be bothered listing. in the last 8 years I had a zx9r for a couple of years then traded it in for a zx6r which i toured france on to find it on its side on the second day as a driver had used it as a bumper whilst parking. didnt like it anyway drove home 2 weeks later and bought a brand new 2001 R1. Loved tthe R1 to bits but did a deal with the other half if i sold the R1 I could buy any £20K car so I bought the VX. I used to commute on the R1 hitting 120mph every day and 160 a couple of times a week. I came round a corner one morning at 120ish to find a speed gun pointed at me but it didnt register. between that and scraping the peg and exhaust trying to out lean my mate one day I felt the writing was on the wall and as I have had the best bike ever made I can bow out on top. Still got the GPZ550 for doing up some day which even though its 1981 it still does 135mph and the 1/4 in 12secs not that I would want to prove it.

I'm on the market for a bike again, after 8 years of abstinence.... :P still undecided, looking for something totally anti-climactic to the speedy, that is, enjoiable at low speed, great to putter along and comfy..... I DO NOT want a bike that will push me to go fast, too fecking dangerous for my precious chiropractor's hands.... amazingly, I both love the big thumpers, like DR650 or Dominators, and I am also attracted by the big, fat naked, a-la JZR 1300 yamaha, that will pull away at 1500 rpm's in 5th gear.... B) ...will prolly take the plunge this winter, when the prices are rock-bottom... :D

I can understand. I loved the "steady" feel of a Dominator – as a passenger.
Quintessentially British bike.

But maintenance? Brakes? Is it up to today's road conditions?

I've got a 2001 R6 and it's my 1st bike, but i'm with dan on the Aprilia RSV 1000 R or a 999 :)

Maybe i should wait until i've been riding a year before i change it!

Wow Vicki an R6 is some bike for your virgin ride! As long as your getting on fine I cant see a reason not to upgrade as long as you dont mind spending the extra pennies? It will be worth it to have that monster throbbing between your legs ;)

Had a sht of the XJR1300 a few times as a courtesy bike. Loved it. Real "old school" grunt, handles beautifully and goes and stops great for a big bike. Really comfy and the other half thought it looked nice too. Was going to swap the R1 for a new one to keep the speed down and went to the dealer to do just that, left on the R1 because: Bad points the engine alloy goes funny quickly as do the alloy on the front forks. (Surface patina) The paint is crap on the frame and a one year old I was looking at had bad signs of rust at the intersection behind the oil cooler. Drinks petrol at a crazy rate. I think you could do better than that for price UK bike 2001, 5000miles 1 owner, mint cond £4000.00 o.n.o
