I pulled it through from the engine bay to the access hole in the sill and then from the sill to the servo.  The sill to the servo is the hardest bit.  Good luck with it.  thumbsup

Well, finally got round to doing this job.

Bought one of these garden hose connectors, and it was such a tight fit I didn't bother using wire or anything. If I was doing it again I think I'd use some tape.

I was worried that the wide bits might catch, so I ground them off.

Posted Image

This is it, all connected up.

Posted Image

I unclipped the hose on the clip I could reach. Not sure this was a good idea. So far I haven't tried to put it back. I'll have a go after lunch.

Posted Image

Gave a big tug of my hose (ooh er missus) but it wouldn't budge. Was about to give up but gave it one last tug and it came through.

Posted Image

You do have to keep feeding it from the other end, so two people does save time, although I did it alone.

I then pulled it through from the front and it seemed to go easier. Right up until this happened.

:beat:

There was no way to push the new hose through from the passenger compartment so I pushed the old one back and reattached. I then added some washing up liquid. Something fell on the sill floor. Turned out to be the gromet.

Posted Image

This time all went well. I put the gromet back and attached the hose at both ends.

Just the usual VX maintenance damage.

Posted Image

So was it worth it?

I think this is the original, now 10 years old hose.

The brakes have always been crap. The previous owner said the brakes were crap, and he owned it from nearly new so I just assumed VX brakes were crap. It was only when briefly driving DaveMate's car last year that I realised it was my VX that had crap brakes.

Don't know what they're like now - have a few other jobs to do before a test drive, but I'm hoping I now have some servo assistance.

Seem a bit better, but still not great. Maybe I have a dodgy servo.

So I'm doing this at the weekend and my question is this; the bit between the one way valve and the inlet manifold, is this anything special or is it just to accommodate the presence of the one way valve? Figured while I'm there I may as well replace it all if I can.

it might be the same hose, sometimes it's slightly smaller hose, but you should replace it at the same time.

:yeahthat:

Same size hose on mine and well worth replacing at the same time. Remember which way the valve goes ;)

vacuum rated hose from cbsonline is the cheapest option.

It was 24.27+vat autovaux in April part number 93188760.

You should get the one FLD says I reckon.

I need to replace mine. The bit going into the sill looks fine, is it acceptable to just replace the damaged end sections and join to the old pipe?

My hose was in shocking condition and definitely needed replacing, but it was actually still maintaining vacuum. I tried driving with the hose disconnected just to see if it made a difference - and it did, big time!

Resurrecting this if you don't mind, my brakes are shot, one good pump of the pedal and then I have no more, so either a failed servo or the hose ( which would be nice).

These are great step by steps to do the job, but ahead of me tackling anyone got any pics or explain where the hose attaches in the engine bay, is it simple to get to ?

Cheers all

Also check the 1-way valve which is near the inlet manifold, if that fails (particularly on a turbo car) it will cause similar symptoms.
