got the recall letter through the post today... booked it in to vauxhall tomorrow, my question is... will they at the garage actually know what to look for? as it doesnt say on the letter, or will they just ring up some technical number and find out? (not that i dont trust vauxhall or anything!). also, as another member said, mines a LY and they dont make the black wheels anymore, so what will they do? i dont want them bodge jobbing a couple of silver ones and putting them on

Mine are ordered and comming on thursday. look for the letters H.T. stamped on the inside of one of the spokes. if it says this then the wheel does not need replaced. use a small mirror and a torch. 2001 NA

Yeah I am a little worried too. I just got my recall notice to have them checked out. I am woefully sceptical of any of my local dealers being able to diagnose the problem and fit any new wheels if required. Would I be better taking it to a nearby safari park and seeing what the chimps can do? Serioulsy, if the dealer insists on fitting the wheels themselves, it will be 25mph all the way home, take them off myself and refit them - w@nkers! Dont like dealers :( Would burn them if I could get away with it. :) hmmmm..... hot...smokey

I think atm its a bridge that us LY owners are going to have to cross when it comes to it. I know Cocopops has already made Vauxhall customer services aware of the issue.

I checked my wheels, and they are amongst the affected ones. I have so far not had a letter from Opel Norway, so I will contact them tomorrow.

If vxl supply new wheels what happens to the old ones? Do I get to keep them, or does the dealer have to have them recycled into beer cans? Would quite like to keep the old wheels for the track (complete with scrubbed tyres) if possible. Maybe they can tell me which skip they use...

Doubtful you'll be able to keep them.

Besides, knowing that they can 'fail under extreme circumstances' wouldn't exactly inspire you with confidence on track. :o

Right a certain garage in guildford has just done my rear wheels. As I was needed back at work (a mere 5 miles away) I haven't checked my tyre pressures yet but the car does seem to be riding quite high at the back so this needs to be done asap. Also the inbred sea cucumber that changed the wheels managed to chip the paint on the hub of one of them. I pointed this out and they said they would resolve it when I took it back for its Vacuum hose - which they only informed me of today (previously they knew nothing about it). Useless twats! Mind you as I was expecting a call similiar to the one Bletch must have received about his VXR - "sorry sir we appear to have slightly written off your car on a "Test Drive"..." I'm quite lucky really.

I checked my wheels at the weekend and noticed they were only marked with PT not HT.
Seeing as im the 3rd owner of the vehicle and had no recall notice (how would vauxhall even know if i owned the car anyway?).

Im a little worried therefore how do i resolve the problem? Who do I phone? Anyone up here near Newcastle affected?

Hi,
Just call the recall helpline on 0118 945 8500 and they will tell you what is outstanding on your car, you just need your reg number :)

Has anyone with an Ly been inspected and been told they do need their black wheels changing?
Mine definately don't have the HT mark. But ...
I had the recall notice, went into the local Bristol dealer, but was told they are only inspecting silver wheels.

Well just back from my dealer with my two brand new wheels and the vacum hose fully replaced (they replaced the whole thing as I watched through the window). I thought all went very well until I got home to a message on my answering machine saying, opps we forgot to put your locking wheel nut back :beat: :beat: :beat: ! Can you drop by and pick it up. ME: Eh, i live 40 miles away and only came all the way upto to you because you are supposed to be the best in Scotland. Anyway rant over they are sending it recorded delivery, so we shall see if Royal snail manage to loose it!!!! Nothing is ever easy! Wil PS on the bright side the brakes now work a treat :D

Don't be fooled by the larger P.T. in the casting. The HT they look for is smaller and on a different spoke. Recheck your wheels for the smaller HT...
