I think it is because the pipe enters the sill under the dashboard and you need a clear feed to get the new one through smoothly. Guess it's difficult enough without having to do it up-side down, with a gearstick in back and a handbrake up your *&%£ :)

Had it all done, new rear wheels, new hose, not sure how much of it but they had the car for three days in total for both recalls and an airbag warning light problem. As expected they damaged my car a bit  , I asked them if we could do a pre check on the car and they just kind of fobbed me off with "we will look after your car sir" should have been more insistent. They cracked the black sil cover on the drivers side, it was already a bit cracked but they made it a lot worse, its quite hard to prove any of this though. They also cracked some of the fiber glass on the passenger side near the seatbelt, the part they were fixing, its a fresh looking crack and have agreed to fix it. Its probably not worth letting them loose on the car again because its in a place where a lot of VXs are prone to the odd small split/crack. I never want to go to main dealers again, they are sh!t, expensive and dont care.

As a direct result of this tread I called the recall number on 26th July. My car was booked in for 9th August for wheels and vac hose (and Airbag... previous owners didn't have this done). Got a call from the dealer this morning saying that they need the car for at least 10 hours for the vac hose and they've just received a bulletin from Vauxhall telling them this. The technicians are only there for 8 hours in a day so it's a 2-day job. They don't have any courtesy cars available until the 15th August and the required adhesive for the vac hose is on back-order so it may not be happening then either. And they need to see the wheels before ordering new ones - I've checked and there's no HT markings on the spokes. I suppose I'll just have to take a trip out to see them in advance. :D Think I'll take the scenic route... :D

Just had my car taken off me. We are not allowed to allow you to take your car away sir as it is in an unsafe condition. Good job I don't need it this weekend.

Just had Vauxhall customer care on the phone:- 'Sorry its not our policy to paint the wheels black for you' After I carefully explained matters to the lady, she is now returning to get a second opinion

Up @ 7.30 this morning to take the car to Pentagon @ derby. 90 mins later informed that the "Beast" requires 2 alloys and a vacum hose. The initial conversation went like this, me, I have a recall letter from vauxhaul to have rear alloys checked, also I was told by Vauxhaul helpline that brake/vacum hose req checking. Vaux, Do you have letter for brake. Me, No, Vauxhaul said I don't need one, and when i booked it in here they said it dose'nt matter either. Vaux, Huh I've never heard that before, you say its booked in. me, yes it is. 8.30. Vaux, its not brake hose its vacum hose and yes it req's checking, Oh I did,nt know there was a recall on them. Whilst hanging around for it to be checked I found a Greasy spoon roadside buger van and had a £2.50 "Big pig" special. Very nice as well, anyway whilst watching the car being checked over, I could'nt help but watch the bloke who was valetting cars. Is it an advanced way of cleaning cars that once you have cleaned the paintwork you do the wheels and then do the paintwork with the same cloth again. Whats that all about. PS: Sticking bog standard wheels on, and not buying new fronts at £250 each.

Refused to check my vacum hose because i didn't have a re-call letter  , He said something about it may not need doing etc... but i know the fitter so he made a phonecall and confirmed it didn't need doing.. I do need new wheels though. he said they should have them in two weeks [i wont hold my breath]. I waited a month for the heater knob.

Re if you have a letter or not, again vauxhaul are not doing much of a good pr job. By now most specialist VX centres should know what is on a recall, It would take 2 mins for them to phone the vauxhaul helpline to see if the vacum hose should be checked or not whilst in for a alloy check. @ the end of the day it is us running around with dodgy wheels and iffy vacum hoses so the least vauxhaul could do is meet us halfway, and play the game a bit, letter or no letter.

I have got new wheels they are beautiful and shiny, never realized how metalicy they were, my front look grey in comparison. How much should it be for two wheels re-furbished? About £100, its going to need doing. Was well surprised when all the parts were in stock and it got done within days. But they damaged my car  very slight fibre glass damage, may not be worth 2x80 mile round trips to get it fixed but its the princple, they did not take care. Typically the manager is on holiday and I am waiting for a call back. Is this sort of thing best dealt with in writing?

because of the Vac hose???

Due to wheels. He showed me the guide from Vauxhall. It clearly state vehicles with the defect must not be released.

He also told me I would need a new set of pads all round due to the brake recall. I had to point out that the letter refered to the vacuum hose :beat:

I couldn't be arsed to argue so just left the car following a close inspection.

browns of loughton knew i needed the recall and booked me in for today, dropped it in at 10am and just took delivery of it, seems thay have replaced the entire hose as far as i can see, some people have just had ends replaced as far as im aware, wonder why that is? im well impressed by their service and work, i has crack in the old pipe as it was and now the braking is back to how it should be! the drive home was even better than usual!!! one happy customer! :P
