I was told that no LY wheels were affected by the dealer and vauxhall technical dept. i asked them to explain the difference and all they said was that they were fine, it is definatly down to the cost methinks.......

Cost of replacing 6000+ silver wheels - Massive

Cost of repainting 200 black wheels - tiny by comparison. As its a recall, I really don't think they'd dare scrimping on a small percentage of wheels to save a tiny (relative) amount if you consider the potential law suits.

I'd be far more inclined to blame incompetence :D

Wife took mine in today to have it checked to see if wheels need replaced (I'd previously checked myself, but they wouldn't take my word over the phone) and to look at the servo hose. Car was booked in at 10am for a "waiting" appointment, i.e. you wait the short period of time it takes to do the checks (I reckoned 10 minutes tops) and then take the car away. rant They left my wife waiting for an hour and twenty minutes!!!!! :beat: She says that the car sat in the car park for the first 25, then was in the inspection bay for 5 minutes and then sat outside again for 40 minutes!!!! She asked the girl at reception who explained that it takes 20 minutes to check the wheels (on their ramps - it never left the ground!) and 20 minutes to check the hose????? But the car was only ever in the hands of the grease monkeys for 5 minutes... Girl was very stroppy and said that the rest of the time was taken up "ordering the parts." Why did my wife have to sit around and wait for this to be done? Surely they could have sent her on her way and said that they would call when the parts were in (which is what they said in the end)? :9mm: :9mm: :9mm: Makes me furious that these people can be so incompetent and then try to cover up their incompetence/laziness/inefficency (delete as appropriate) with excuses that they think females will accept. rant - I feel better now! :D Almost convinced that I'll be taking a day off and watching every step of the recall work to make sure there are no accidents. Just goes to prove that one VX specialist dealer is no better than another. Independant garages for me from now on! I suppose this is all part of the VX220 ownership experience...

Hi, I took my LY to hartwells (Norwich), they said my wheels dont need doing because they are black. I asked them to check if they had the HT stamp, They havent. Not happy with the attitude of the mechanics I asked to speak to the service manager and pointed out that surely the HT stamp was a greater indication, rather than the colour that can be easily changed, that the wheels could be potentially dangerous. He phoned thevauxhall technical centre, who confirmed LY wheels dont need replacing. Still confused with this result, I phoned the vauxhall recall line. I explained to him my worries, and pointed out that as i am not the original owner, I cannot be certain that the wheels are original, and there is a possibility that they were once silver and have been resprayed. He was extremely helpful and suggested that this information should be put through to their technical department ( getting somewhere :) ) The public cant speak to technical direct. I would have to go through a dealer  . I told him about my unsatisfying dealings with hartwells, He suggested i give thurlow nunn a ring as they have a very good reputation. ( I should have known this after reading the some of the posts on this site :beat: ) Spoke to them this morning and once again explained my concerns, and asked them to double check if there is a batch number on the affected wheels. The woman on the service counter was extremely helpful and has booked my car in on tues. I will have to wait and see

Just to let everyone know:

1. Vauxhall say the LY black wheels are unaffected by the recall
2. However, LY wheels do not have HT stamped on them
3. I've asked Vauxhall to confirm they are unaffected
4. I'm awaiting a reply

I'd wait until we know for sure.

John

I know you could probably do without the hassle but can you find out from Vauxhall how they know the LY wheels are not affected and whether there is any way of actually distinguishing an LY wheel marked PT from a silver wheel marked PT and painted to match? At the end of the day the LY owners would be much happier if their PT marked wheels were changed and for the sake of less than 100 cars (as a few have been written off) surely it would be worth their while in PR terms?

John has been trying.... I know coz I've been badgering the poor chap.
Those are my thoughts Richie, about the chances of silver being painted bronze/black/anthracite/whatever colour they are.

Like you say, for the sake of a few extra wheels... is it worth not changing them....

Can you say "Lawsuit" if they didn't change them and one went pop?

Booked into Motorbodies, Luton for Wheels, Vac hose and airbag on the 26th July for 9th August. Phonecall a couple of days before saying no adhesive for hose and no courtesy car for two-day vac hose job so re-booked for 15th-16th August (by the way can you bring your car in for us to check the wheels - duly did and wheels ordered). Got a phonecall today saying still no adhesive so cancelled next week's booking. They have the wheels and vac hose. But no airbag either. I'm chuffed they've kept me well informed but me thinks someone else is going to get the job of sorting these things out. Anyone out there with some glue??? :)

I know that  My car is booked in there on the 23rd. What I was aksing for is not clarification that they are or are not to be changed but if they are not some proof that they are different to the affected wheels because from what we've been told the only thing distiguishing a wheel to be changed is the PT mark and all the LY wheels seem to be marked PT! I thought John might be able to get some details as no one at Vauxhall seems prepared to give the owners any, which isn't very confidence inspiring.
