Latest Updates - Phoned in to CBRE Office
John Bailey in the Porsche 944 ramed through a Police blockade in Spain and hid in a small Spanish villiage for 3 hours...
The Winners of stage 1 are Steve Fenton and Nigel Armstrong in car 60 (BMW M3).
Rob Kenworthy and David Phelan in car 67 (Porsche 911 Turbo) completed the stage the quickest. Rob was last seen pulling a number of doughnuts in front of the Spanish Police on his way off the ferry from Africa...
Nick Carlton-Smith in the Porsche 911 run out of petrol in the mountains, to be saved by Ian Bowers in the White Supra, who was carrying a 2 gallon tank of petrol.
John Bailey stole the only pen in a petrol station, leaving the 3 Cannonballers in the queue behind him frantically searching for a biro so they could pay for their petrol and carry on - they found one......15 minutes later!
Paul Richmond and Michael Crea went across a roundabout at 70mph, and are no longer in the Merc SLK!

More like can you stop putting your hands on my kneeI wonder if Thorney's co-driver has said : 'do you HAVE to keep sticking your elbow in my chest every time you change gear ??' Yet ?

21:19pm Local Time - Blues Flash!!!!!!
Making progress to Barcelona....just north of Alicante. Jakes lost his fags and his Toblerone has melted as the car is so hot, although compared to yesterdays problems, today is a good day!! Trying to make it for dinner at The Hard Rock Cafe in Barcelona, the next check point. The Blues Mobile is moving at a consistent speed atlast!! No breakdowns, no Police hassle. We did meet Elvis at a Service Station! Hi to Bingo and Karen!!!
Sunday 27th September 2003
As the drivers pressed on into the night conditions became tougher. With fatique setting in the heavens opened as the pack traversed the Spanish Pyrenees. The No. 82 Mercedes SLK was the first to fall foul, straight-lining a roundabout and was damaged enough to put them out of the event (like totalled).
Some 15 Cannonball cars were temporarily delayed by police in central Spain – apparently a case of mistaken identify with an unknown car that had smashed clean through a roadblock causing a major manhunt to get underway. Clearly nothing to do with the Cannonball…..
The new day however brought glorious sunshine and a welcome lift for the final run down to Algerciras. Team Kenworthy in the awesome Porsche GT2 claimed bragging rights as the first to arrive, a full 2 ½ hours before the checkpoint even opened!
It was down to the wire as with the ferry to Tangiers ready to leave, Cannonball cars still streamed into the port. Still, all cars still running made it and were welcomed into Morocco with musicians and a police cavalcade to the stunning 5-star casino hotel. They had arrived.
PODIUM AFTER STAGE 1
1. Steve Fenton / Nigel Armstrong (BMW M3) – 0.001 MPH from target
2. Paul Huxley / Karl Owend – 0.121 MPH from target
3. Allistair Brown / Richard Kettle (Porsche 911) – 0.140 MPH from target

Wedsnesday 1st October
11.55am - Blues Flash!!!!!
The Blues Brothers are out!!!! the car has been left at the hotel in Lyon, due to brake failure!! Both occupants are now travelling with other Cannonballers to be home in time for the finish.
11.30am - Tim Porter Update
Due to adverse weather conditions between Lyon and Dijon, this mornings stage of the Cannonball has been cancelled by promotors who deemed the conditions to dangerous. Whilst the Cannonballers arrived and joined Dijon Race Track this was further endorsed as the first three cars around the course span off, with the White Skyline GTR34 hitting the gravel at 100mph.
Whilst the Cannonballers gently drove through the torrentual rain, three more cars fell foul to the conditions, with the Yello Masserati, Black Jaguar XJS and a Porsche all aquaplaining and ending up in the crash barriers. All drivers are safe and well and doing their best to be back for the finish this evening.
Tuesday 30th September
Ned & Cameron, last years winners, set back 2 hours after filling their diesel car with petrol....
I have to say I'm not impressed by the lack of info on the CBRE site - no list of participants, latest retirements or stage placings. Anyone know roughly how many cars started?
