In minus 3 yesterday mine was pumping out 'cold' air, just enough to defrost..

Don't really get what you are doing with Coke bottles. My Sharon does a neat trick but that would be spamming the thread.
From what I am reading, it seems like you are reducing the diameter of the pipe that connects the matrix with the dash. In other words you are increasing the velocity of the warmed air from the matrix along the connecting pipe.
My heater mod is as shown below. Blue pipe slips over heater, metal connector fits into dash inlet.
The trunking I use is "heater trunking from AC Cobra specialist".
I would really like to see the Coke Bottle mod though. Anything for a better heater, and a fix for most owners heater problems.
