quick update just got home after picking my car up,

Exhausts on :D
Sounds fooking good :D
No rattles or movement :D
Looks great :D

The eml is still on but since the two guys worked to 11o'clock on a sat night sorting the other problems i am quite happy to leave it at that until it can get rebooked. It sounds exactly as i asked for, burbles when idling, pops and bangs on the overun then roars on full throttle. Sounds quite similar to a piper box maybe a bit deeper tone

I was a non believer regarding sports cats :beat:

Having fitted a magnaflow 200 cell, I now recommend them :D

The magnaflow requires welding in place, but for less than £100 for the cat, worth the hassle thumbsup

Which one did you use? I've found this link to their product range, clicky

edit: found a better link. clicky

Do you mean the 'Magnaflow Street/Racer Catalytic Converters' on the second link i posted? As these look from the pictures to be the best designs of diffusers i've from a fluid dynamic point of view. I don't know about the substrate, but these not generally much in it as long as it's 200 cell.

I've been thinking of options for replacing my cat section so may give this a go, i know a bit about emissions solutions ;)

still not got round to it yet, busy with other stuff at the mo, plus im having fun and games getting the precat out! old cats all cut up ready to weld - its 50mm external, which is the same diameter as the standard cat, hopefully the welding will be strong enough!

With the cat replacement would you use a dual O2 sensor unit or cut and weld in place keeping the sensors which are there? I would have thought it was easier to get one with sensors already on it

the problem with getting one's with the o2 sensor built in is there is the chance of not getting a good flow signal if it's not in the right place, thus setting off the EML.

This problem is also compounded by the removal of the precat as flow through this smooths out the flow considerably.

it is best to keep the original sensors in their original positions thumbsup the main problem is the flowrate is far greater with a sports cat, so the position of the cat sensor requires a bit of thought the end of the sensor needs to be near the outside of the pipe, rather than near the middle where flow is at it's highest in the usa they use spacers to move the sensor to the edge of the exhaust pipe apparently if the sensor is spaced outside the flow of the exhaust you can even run without the main cat and not get an eml

Remember the lambdas dont come into play under WOT only under general load so you wont get a problem at WOT but you're running as chance of running it lean without the Os sensors.

I am also in the process of sourcing a new sport cat. I have called magnaflow uk and the price for pt No. 54304 (mirror Finnish stainless ceramic performance cat) is £74.80 including vat and delivery. This cat is a 300 cell not 200 cell but shouldn't set off the engine light, this cat is almost identical in dimensions to the original cat. The spun stainless steel are 200 cell metallic cats but prices are around £100 more and extra fabrication would be needed to fit. The other option is the e-bay cat at £90.00 + vat this is a 200 cell metallic but with a steel body not stainless. Any recommendations? Vocky must be using the 300 cell cat if he payed less than £100.00. Cheers Oakmere

It turns out that the cat fitted to mine is the magnaflow  The sensors have been welded into the orginal position and will definitely set of the eml  I am going to try fixing a spacer but if this doesnt help i have a o2 sim on order

VXJON: who did your custom exhaust? £400 sounds like a bargain. did you have to send the car in? I now have a whole spare cat + silencer so do you think its possible they could work off that while the car is kept on the road?

It was msw in strathaven and the car was away for a day, dropped it off in the morning then picked it up later after work. Apart from the eml problem i would happily recommend msw to anyone looking at exhaust options for a vx thumbsup As i posted before the exhaust sounds exactly like i specified and with a wide range of tail pipes to finish it off you cant go wrongMSW

I will post up some pics of the installation on monday when i get it up on a ramp to fit the o2 sim

MSW sells the Piper back box at £500.... not the place to buy from...

For your spacer, you can order it here:
http://www.voodooboo...s/O2_Simulator/

Basically, this device is made of 2 plug anti fouler but one is modified as shown here

VXJON Any developments with your engine management light problems? Did you try the O2 sensor spacer as suggested. I ask as I am thinking of fitting a sports cat. Cheers Oakmere

Hi mate I didnt try the spacer i went for the universal sim which does work but also sets off a o2 heater circuit fault which means my eml is still on :( I havent had a chance to sort this out but i should be able to fix it by using a different 12v for the o2 circuit or by using a 30omh resistor across the ciruit to simulate a working heater :(
