Test Drive Unlimited
Xbox 360
Genre: Automotive

Reviewed by N08LE

Ok so we have all played it and love it. But what do we really think?
TDU is an online driving / racing game aimed at people who have a love for cars, competition and friends. Available on Xbox 360 it is a single or multiplayer game with the usual game achievements and unlocking rewards.
You can choose not to connect to xbox live and complete as much of the game as possible without having to bump into anyone from the community, therefore giving the game a secluded side if you not into the whole online thing. However the real benefit comes from online play. If your after joining or running car clubs, racing or duelling player after player or just meet friends and going for a drive and a chat about how much the misses spent on this weeks shopping then Test Drive is the game for you.
There are 95+ cars to drive. Everything from your affordable Audi A3 up to the high priced Mclaren F1's. TDU lets you make money to buy the cars by winning single player races and challenges then lets you customise them at the tuners and paint shops around the island.
Ok so what about the island... Well its based on the island of Oahu, Hawaii and to be fair the game developers have done an amazing job of recreating the main attractions the island has to offer. The graphics, gameplay are superb and the online gaming side of it really shoots this game to the top of the driving game charts. Its comes highly recommended.

Score = 9/10

Positive:
1) Amazing graphics
2) Realistic car performance and handling

Negative:
1) Recent patching has made the game develop a connectivity problem
2) In game car prices are controversial

Tiger Woods 2007 - XBox 360 Review: After playing a couple of earlier incarnations of Tiger Woods on my PC I thought I'd try it out on my newly acquired XBox 360. I fired it up and after spending an improbable amount of time creating my golfer (the level of customisation is very high), I set of with my clubs into the wild green yonder. As with previous versions, you need to train your golfer by completing various scenarios. You have about 12 different skills that can be trained from 0% up to 100%. You can choose from a list of skills that you wish to improve and each scenario will increase at least one skill. These scenarios range from simple a long drive shoot-out to multiple hole, closest to the pin competitions. There are lots of tasks to choose from so if you can't complete a particular type you can try a different one while still increasing your skill in the chosen area. The training increases your skills level up to a "potential" level that starts at around 10% (this is the same level for all skills) and can be increased by beating golfers in the Tiger Challenge match play. As you progress through the game, you can buy various items from the "Pro Shop". The majority of these items have the side-effect of increasing one or two of your skill levels, although they may also reduce your fashion sense (Hawaiian shirt anyone?). The higher the skill increase, the higher the $ cost, and most items will require "unlocking" by completing various aspects of the game (e.g. first tournament win). As for competitive play, the are three main areas...Tiger Woods Challenge, PGA Tour & online play. The Tiger Woods Challenge is in match play format (hole by hole) and gives you the opportunity to play various players, some based on real golfers, some completely imaginary. Once you have beaten 24(?) golfers you have the chance to play Tiger Woods. PGA Tour is a calendar based mode where you play various tournaments over the course of a "year", including 4 "Majors". Each tournament is played over 4 rounds and you will need to make the "cut" (be close enough to the leader) after two rounds. There are several measures of progress through the game: - Trophy balls, e.g. First Hole in One, First Major Win, etc. - Par 5 Eagles, a record of which courses you have scored an eagle on all par 5s - Tracking Tiger, similar to trophy balls but awarded for matching or beating various achievements that Tiger has managed. - All time records, a set of records for each course - Game progress & Tour progress, simple percentages Online play is pretty easy to set up although you'll find there are the usual "disconnect when you're losing" muppets you get everywhere. I've played a couple of the scoreboard leaders and they are pretty good. All single player match types are available online so if you find something you like offline you can find it online too. The method of control took a little practice as I'd come from a PC "three click" style. Graphics are very good and the golfer animation is excellent, especially the (user selectable) celebrations and swings, etc. As this is an American game, there as statistics covering every possible aspect of your career, including online play which will give you some idea of how well you are doing. There are some bugs in the game as seems almost inevitable these days. Online play seems to get confused over which golfer profile it should use/load. I've had it fail to show a display when on the green a couple of times (hitting pause made the display work, but resuming went back to a black screen). Also, part way through a round, my connection to XBox Live was lost and TW2007 decided that my (not online) game should stop right there and dumped me to the main menu. Some Pro Shop items aren't unlocked when they are due to be. One of the Trophy balls is to complete 5 online tournaments, I've completed 4 so far but my "resumé" only shows 1. Final Score: 8 Of 10. Positive Points: Well thought out learning curve. Lots of different types of golf matches to play. Online play. High level of eye-candy. Negative Points: A few bugs. PGA Tour mode opponents scores are based on your score (the better you do, the better they do). There doesn't seem to be much point in creating a lead as the AI will always catch up and can overtake you. Putts seem to unaccountably stop rather abruptly on the edge of the cup.

Rainbow Six Vegas
Xbox360
FPS Shooter

Reviewed by Noble

Tom Clancy is back with this hard hitting action packed espionage thriller. And when I say thriller I mean it, the game is filled with suspense. Choosing the right entry in to rooms for your team is crucial, if you have ever played team command games before then you will now all about ROE and it counts in this game.
The game starts of in Mexico whilst your an assignment, you are then sent to Vegas to rid it of the terrorists. You play team CO called Logan an experienced young spec ops guy in charge of Michael (annoying south African accent) and Yung.
Graphically I found the game not as good as it could be. I dont have HDTV so that may have been my downfall. The colours were a bit blurry at times. The effect when hit by bullets and explosions are great and the flash bang effects are out of this world however annoying, as Im sure they would be in real life.

Single player mode has a great storyboard that has 2 levels of difficulty and a hunt the terrorist mode. Compared to Gears of War you dont feel ripped off by the length of this game. Even on normal difficulty you are taxed in some rooms.

Muliplayer mode excels with everything from last man standing to team co-op missions all voice comm'd. I have not spent much time on multiplayer but I did find it a little big buggy. Issue Im sure that will be resolved with a patch.

Noble final score 8/10

Positive points:
1) Looks and feels great
2) Blood and weapon effects are amazing
3) Command rules, action and suspense can be felt

Negative points:
1) AI teammates can get in your way.
2) Michaels voice is annoying - lol
3) Multiplayer was buggy and had the usual dropped connex problems.

Red dead redemption GTA with horses and crappier guns.. great story and new features for the sad of life aiming for 100% completion but very cool, and wonderful landscape to explore. Mountains in the distance are really there for you to wander to rather than just a picture smeared at the edge of the gameplay area.

ALan Wake - Xbox 360 I read a lot of the hype and i have really started enjoying interactive media type games, the mass effect, heavy rain type games. Having always loved point and click adventures, i still hope that at some point there will be a good balance of 3d gameplay and this type of simple gaming. sadly Alan wake doesnt quite meet expectations on being a good video game nor being good interactive media. although being pretty good in two catgories does make for a reasonably entertainign package. it takes a lot of inspiration from stephen king (wish i had know that before i bought!), although it does try and branch into early silent hill type dynamics and story telling. The game take a format of a tv show, where you play episodes, its a good format although these episodes, i like thinking "i will just play one episode" it allows me to pick up and put down the game but feel that i have got somewhere, rather than sitting and playing all the way through modern warfare 2 in one sitting... game play is reasonable as said before, although atmosphere is very good, the way that the game engine works is a technical marvel and walking through the wods does feel quite clostrophobic at time, a few things have made me jump and a few things have made me interested. atlhough i never really feel involved, it runs through hoops and is very linear, characters are not all that interesting either. all this sounds quite down ont he game, i would say its a great game to borrow from a lmate or to pick up second hand, but i wouldnt have wanted to buy it new, i would have felt let down for my 40 notes. 8 Out Of 10 if you borrow it, 6 out of ten if you pay full whack for it. Positive Points - Great game engine, good atmosphere, interesting story line. Negative Points - sometime un engaging, characters lack substance, too linear in its delivery, often repetitive.

L.A Noire GTA on rails.... you can drive and walk anywhere but get punnished for doing the naughty things that GTA loves you for... GFX are amazing! facial qualities are very good. the decision if someone is lying or telling the truth is very hard, well saying that its easy to see someone is lying but proving it with the evidence you have found is harder and sometimes the link between the two is very tenuous (sp.) Overall though im really enjoying it and would say so far its a 8/10

Portal 2 - amazing fun, slightly bizarre storyline and I wanted more of an interaction with the real world as EP3 should be coming out soon.... hopefully. But other than that a good playthrough! 9/10

Also to add a few others:

Arena RTS Style Games

DotA (Old game) - Played on the old warcraft 3 platform this spawned the other, newer creations as listed below. The aim is you play either a 5v5 or a 3v3 battle, on a square, symmetrical map where the two teams start at opposing diagonal corners (top right and bottom left). You control only 1 character (hero) and use their playstyle and abilities combined with your teams' heroes' abilities to win the game against the opposition. As you kill neutral troops or enemy heroes you gain gold to buy items to increase your hero's attack power/health/regeneration/spell damage. 7/10

HoN (Heroes of Newerth) - Greatly improved graphics over the original dota map on the war3 engine. It carried over most of the old dota heroes (probably around 60 or so in total I think...) but renamed them all, gave them new models and voices and changed all their spell animations, but the base idea was still there. It means you can relate easily to the game if you were a previous DotA player, but also makes it much easier if you weren't - they all have nice tooltips and the shop to purchase hero items has a 'Recommended for this hero' tab, that changes with hero choice to make amping your character up a lot easier for new players. 9/10

LoL
(League of Legends) - Same concept, two teams, opposite corners, item shop. It has very cartoon style graphics which put a lot of people off. However that relates directly to how the game plays. It's a lot easier for new players to pick up LoL than it is HoN and do well. It doesn't copy any heroes from DotA and also it doesn't allow a tactic called denying, which is when you can attack your own troops and defense towers when they are low on health to stop the enemy gaining experience or gold from the kills, in HoN you can do this. 8/10

LoL and HoN are both good in their own right. I wouldn't really recommend buying warcraft 3 to play DotA though, it's a bit dead nowadays. LoL if you are new to this style of game and want an easy laid back approach. HoN if you are slightly better and want a challenge.
