a little racereport. short version: life sucks :( here´s the long version. saturday: after missing almost the whole qualifying because of a malfunction on the onboard-camera, we got it out for 3laps in the end. the car felt almost undriveble and after the session we remembered that the tirepressure was a bit high due to mounting on the rims. >35psi :D that explained why i had some problem with oversteer. still i managed to qualify in 2:nd place in the class and a 18:th of 36 starting. we agreed to start from the pit because we were shooting (did this for a tvchannel called viasat sport) with a camera just behind the right frontwheel (they didn´t want a smashed one in return), so i did about 10 laps and returned to pit for a change of driver and relocating of the camera. stefan got out and stayed for an hour before switching to helena. i took the last stint and when it was 20min left, the car died in righthand turns, so i decided to get into the pit and try to locate the problem. we didn´t find anything that could have caused this, so we just had to let it be and try to sort it during the 8h-race on sunday. sunday: when we unloaded the car sunday, we saw that we had a hugh crack in the frame over the right toelink (didn´t i read about that somewhere  ) we decided not to race and instead do a proper repair at home. this was the last race for the year and we have already started to disassembly the car for some mayor upgrading for next season. i´ll keep you updated.

your right about the race, but we will not participate there :( . it´s not a cheap hobby we´re stuck with :D usually it´s snowing and subzero (this made our choice easier) on the finals and i don´t have any longstockings to keep me warm thumbsup

some updates.
the engine is in place and everything except the ecu with harness is ready.

Hi Anders,
I have a short question. Is the engine in its original place or did you move/tilt it back to be able to fit the intake manifold and the 100l's tank?

Tilting the engine can lower the CGH. I think they did it on the ColinBlower thingy! thumbsup

colin could do that because he uses a quaife(hewland/xtrac etc) gearbox that allowes it. i don´t think a tilt of the std-engine would change the cgh at all.

It should, cuase you are lowering the height at which the Centre of Mass of the engine is established by the factory build.

well theoretical maybe, but the engine can´t be tilted more than maybe 5cm on a std-car. on my racecar i could probably tilt it backwards(not forward), but that would create weighttransfer to the back thumbsdown

the mass-center of the engine would be approx. about 8-10cm over the center of the crank. tilting the engine 2-3degree (~5cm at head) would change the cgh of the engine about 3mm. a lot of work and almost no gain?.

...a lot of work and almost no gain?.....

On the face of it, probably a heck of a lot of work for little gain.
It is difficult to say however without having figures for the car realting to its original longitudinal and transverse and vertical centres of gravity.
You'll then need an accurate mass figure for the engine, and find out where the centre of gravity of the engine act (or its position).
You then have to create a table of moments from the shift in position (yeah, complicated thumbsdown ) to the new centre of gravity, i.e. GG1

In reality my gut feeling is that although you've managed to lower the centre of gravity of the car - through a considerable amount of effort ;) - you'll have moved the centre of gravity towards the rear of the car, in one foul sweep.
This will have the beneficial effect of improving your cornering powers, but the detrimental effect of increasing the car's polar moments of inertia.
And it's the polar moments of inertia you really want to be keeping as low as possible, which translate into instantaneous response.

good and bad news  we started mapping today and ended mapping when a rollerrocker nearly past through the side of the cylinderhead. we haven´t determent what the cause was, but probably a hydraulic lifter that has started the mess.

I have started to work on the car after a long break. I lost all my devotion and joy to work on the car after the engine breakdown in midsummer. But i´m back and i´m going to beat the sh*t out of this crappy car and race it like it never been raced before :D The new thing is that our raceclass has got unlimited wheelwidth. I ordered 8 new 8x17" Superleggera and a set with 2 x 8x18 and 2 x 9x18". Tiresize will be altered depending on track, but 215/45-17 and 255/40-17 or 225/40-18 and 265/35-18 is two options.
