there is not a hole lot of space between the rim and caliper(2mm) but it´s enough.

Dude, are you not concerned about small stones getting trapped between caliper and the wheel? Also why have you gone down to a 15" wheels? Is it to do with the selection of rubber or something else?

Dude,

if it was a big gap i really would be concerned about big stones :D
never had a problem with stones or other things get stuck between the caliper and rim on any car (road or race).

i build my cars with a simple rule.
if it don´t make the car faster or better handling don´t do it.

15" is the smallest i could fit on these brakes.
15" wheels is lighter an has better centered mass.
15" is equal fast as 17" (average laptimes)
15" is cheaper. both rims an tires.
15" is more forgiving and easier to drive on the edge. i have paying drivers on the car :D

having bigger wheels than needed on a racecar is only a bling bling thing :)

How come since the laws of mathemtics would suggest a bigger wheel, results in a bigger area of tyre touching the road.

Surely smaller wheels means larger tyre walls which may lead to more tyre flex, hence not as precise steering feel? Plus the wheels that you've chosen appear to be quite heavy - what's the weight difference between these and that standards? Can't wait to see this project finished, thanks for keeping us updated! :D

the laws of fysics don´t say that a bigger (17" than 15") has more contactsurface in the same width.

if you choose a 30% wider tire don´t mean that your contactsurface will increase the same.

i have some difficulty to explain this in english, but one of my friends who has wrote a book about the fysics behind chassiesetups etc and another that has been a raceengineer with toyota F1 has explain this to me.

the wheels on the pics is not the ones i´m gonna use.
it will be OZ crono evolution with Bridgestone RE540.

i haven´t made a compare in weight for the std-wheels because we can´t have those.
the OZ-rim is 5.2kg in 15" and 7.2kg in 17".

yes there will be more tyreflex in the sidewall, but an average driver who is going to set fast and consisting laptimes (without going off track), the 15" will give more confidence (slow and early warnings) and not so edgy as 17" (the warnings are late and marginals is small).

this is my personal experience and the clock says that it´s right for my drivers.

Will you make it for the beginning of the season? At the beginning of this thread, you mentioned April and we're half way through it now  I would love to see this car for myself sometime. Do you ever come over to the UK to do any races or do you race closer to home? I'm sure a few of the forum members would come along to cheer you on :D

we won´t be ready for the 1 and 2 race due to all the unreliable companys all over the world  .

i´ve borrowed another car (a group N citroen bx gti) just for getting any points at all.
i was a guestdriver in this car and we won 2003 final (12h) and the whole series with this car.
we are going to race it in the class where the speedy is suppose to run just to be able count in those points in the end.

we´ve been consider a visit to uk, but i don´t know anything about what races i can participate in there.

maybe a trackday or 2 could be a option.
is it possible to go with a unregistrated car on a trackday?.

here´s a pic of the ugly bastard :D

Anders, if you want me to help co-ordiante a trip over to the UK for a couple of track days then let me know, there are various regs you need to adhere to depending on circuit and day designation and maybe able to get some magazines to run a feature on the car? Drop me an email. john@thorneymotorsport.co.uk

I'd love to see your race-speedster over here in the UK. It would be fantastic too to get it on some timed laps against the sprint or VXR or some crazy elise. :jump: Ben

They would not stand a chance. A race car is a race car. A VXR or a Lambo or a Noble is for shopping groceries.
