Went for the first proper drive in her yesterday and by gum was it fun! Was wet so kept it steady but soon realised that doing 40mph so low to the ground feels a lot faster anyway. Then did a really stupid thing...the kind of stupidity it takes to juggle live grenades...that kind of stooopid... It was about 10.30pm and dropped off at the local Lotus garage forecourt to admire my car against them and be smug about myself. Vanity costs though. Left the engine running as knew I'd be only 10 seconds out of the car. Closed the door shut to admire it...can anyone see what happened next? Absolute panic as cannot get back in car. D'oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So how did you solve the problem is the car still running by its self at the Lotus dealer ?

not uncommon, i did that one but found it very easy to get in as the window was left open an inch nd imanaged to get it down with a push! was scared of breaking something but all was well..

I spent quite a while just looking at the car and contemplating thinking "this cant have just happened can it?". Then tried pushing window down with a little success but not being born with triple jointed fingers stopped me from being able to pop the roof open - mild internal crying ensued... Tried to phone someone then saw the mobile looking at me from the passenger seat *bugger* *bugger* *bugger*.

Pub across the road, should I live car with ignitition on open the public road where someone less scrupulous than me would break the window and nick it? What the hell would the new insurance say to that????? "What? you left your keys in the car sir AND the engine running?"...decided to give it a punt anyway, legged it to the pub and phoned the RAC who could not guarantee breaking into it and absolutely insisted on taking me through all their Marketing b*ll*cks before letting me join up and get someone to help me. The friendly guys in the pub had a look at the car and said they could push the window down a little whilst someone gets their arm in.

Tried that but no need for the arm trick just popped the side of the hood (lovely black bruising on my fingers now)...cue relief - embarrasment - then free drinks for helpful pub patrons...

Moral of the story?

And I do read these pages and was desperately wracking my memory at the time to remember what the guy had said who'd done it previously!!!!!!

Do all NA's automatically lock when the door shuts?

How do you lock your keys in the car in the first place????

Unlock car, open door, lock door, get in, put keys in ignition, start car, drive to destination, open door, get out (car still running), close door, say "doh!".

The door can be opened from inside while locked.

God bless central locking I say Get in, lock car via rocker switch on steering column Can't get out unless you unlock via the steering column so no problem if door shuts Best £430 I ever spent

Didn't realise i was!!! ONly just bought the car and having the door 'locked' as it were was not top of my priorities

So bascially the driver's side door can effectively stay locked and you can still open from inside? So you have to be sure that the door is 'unlocked' when you get in car to avoid embarrasment! must remember this for future avoidance of nobness

Never lock mine - just set the alarm. Guess this cannot hapen to me!!

Always drive with locked doors. Always remember if getting out the car with engine running to unwind drivers side window. Works everytime I have to hop out to get something out the boot or open gates at work etc . Have n't locked keys inside in 4 years owning a vx. REMEMBER TO ALWAYS WIND YER WINDOW DOWN ps the owners of the Lotus garage would be pi33ing their pants if theve got your mishap on cctv .. ohh the stuff of Youtube.
