heh,

the chain is similar to this,

i suppose a motorbike shop or something might fix it, but for reliabilty i'd stick with the standard length.

You're getting oil on your carpet! If that's the style of chain, then it will shorten reliably with a fly-press and punch. What you have there was probably caused by a seizure - something stopped turning and the drive ripped the link apart! Done properly (I guess this is where you're coming from), it'll be as strong as standard. ;) Steve

A pin-punch will generally allow chains to be shortened without a split-link. I must look at the old chain I have in the garage.

I thought Vocky was Keith? I thought he'd be the one to answer! No offence intended... :D

Steve

I'm not keith either

you cannot shorten the water pump chain, it has to follow the route designed by GM, otherwise I would have shortened it, it's very easy to do with a chain tool :)

dunno - i'm mark :P

no electric pump, apparently not reliable enough for daily use?
I was going to go down that route

chain damage is down to stretching due to oil starvation (blocked nozzle) this is what happens kids when the old nozzle gets blocked :D

oh its not me carpet, thats the drive, however my kitchen lino is looking very sorry for itself at the mo :P

You've got a rather posh drive Mark, and I can't see anything wrong with your kitchen - the decor is fine! Steve

pistons 1+4 have the casting, 2+3 don't

but the oil supply to the bearings runs in a slot, so fitting oil cooling jets would be very easy - just drill a hole and fit the oil jet :)
