As do all touch typists.....I could babble all day, but I know the reader would stop reading pretty soon if the point isn't made clear and early on. Unfortunately if the text is off the bottom of the page i'll stop reading pretty much after the first paragraph....I then skip to the last

If my numberplate falls off, and I have no way of re-fixing to the assigned location at the front of the clam, then my options are either to run with no numberplate (i.e. stick it in the boot or passenger footwell) or put it at the front of the windscreen facing outwards, so someone looking at the car CAN SEE the plate.

Would I be acting illegally (i.e. a copper even practising discretion would have to prosecute) by showing the plate through the windscreen? I often see lorries doing this, with the plate fully visible through the windscreen (often when towing etc.) - your comment mixing 'in windscreen / in boot' seems ODD to me, since if the plate is in the boot then it's most definitely obscured, whereas if it's in the windscreen then it's visible, surely?

Cyber, like I said, if a copper thinks he has a case to show that your numberplate isn't properly visible in your windscreen then he will seek to issue an FPN and you will have the opportunity to defend yourself in court if you contest it.

You have to admit though, the visibility argument is weakened in the case of our cars compared to your average artic, since they have flat upright windscreens which are much higher off the ground. Add to that the knee-jerk expectation from the fuzz that people who drive cars like ours only remove plates to avoid fines from scameras or "make the car look good"

But I think you've already contradicted yourself in your last posting... "I have no way of re-fixing to the assigned location at the front of the clam". Given that the front of the clam still exists  the fuzz will not accept that kind of argument and might argue in court if necessary that glue could be employed or the clam drilled to take screws and that you could have gone to a professional workshop to have it sorted. I think what you mean to say is that there is no way of refixing the plate without potentially damaging the car, and you would have to provide a convincing argument that this would be the case. I'm not saying you couldn't - just, as I said before, the onus will be on you and not on the fuzz.

In short, you're just playing Russian Roulette with the law. Whether you get caught or not is anyone's guess...just don't complain if you do!

I'd never complain - if it happens then it's a fair cop. Just wanted to know the consequences if it fell off when driving as opposed to taking it off to avoid cameras. I will be going the velcro route anyway, keep it on most of the time but maybe remove it for 'special' circumstances (like trackdays, and certain routes...) :)

Anyone know what the deal is with the front plate either in the window on the dash or stuck to the top of the windscreen?? Stuck at the top of the windscreen would also double as a handy sunvisor too!! thumbsup I think Christurbo had it stuck in the window and it looked great. Does it have to be directly attached to the very front of the car?? Anyone know??

Like I said Medlow, some fuzz might interpret that as being obscured or not easily distinguishable.

Remember, the top of the windscreen is tinted (Vauxhall obviously thought this would be an adequate substitute for a proper visor  ) and may make the plate less easy to read at a distance
