I was wondering what the weights of all the derivitives of the VX/elise are. I have noticed the weight of elises has crept up a lot over recent years - now they seem to weigh as much as a vx. Anyone interested in contributing? Am I right in remembering that a standard n/a is 875kg? And isn't a turbo 925kg? Aren't s2 exiges about 925kg also? Does anyone know what a standard early s2 elise weighs?

NA 875kg Turbo 930kg (I'll let you have 925 though as it was close! ) Exige S no options - 875kg on pistonheads review but just had a look at the lotus site which says 2016 lbs for base model which is 916kg! Elise S 1984 lbs on lotus site for base car which is 901kg

Sorry, when I said Elise S I meant the S2 Elise, forgot the Elise S was that new one.

Not sure how reliable the stats on this website are, but plenty of info....the times are all hypothetical and bs but the weights seem right for the vx's.

750kg is not a bad guess. I think the S1s were originally quoted without fluids/petrol/etc, so it was a dry weight of sub 700kg. S1 was definitely lighter than a VX, but not by as much as the numbers initially suggested.

Probably not the most accurate source - Lotus have a bit of a reputation for their quoted weights being a touch, how should I put it... 'optimistic' even if considerd on a "dry" basis

iirc the S1 is about 725kg - going up to 750kg ish with Honda - a little more with Audi or Duratec

I'll be putting my MESS on the weigh bridge when it's finished (500Kg inc me @ 47Kg is where I'm aiming). ...................I might get the VX & Exige done as well while I'm at it. E.

My old car (now Richy Roff's) wighed 867kilos with oz wheels and nitrons. Can't remember if the roof was on or off then though. I think it had a full tank of juice but again not sure...

Any idea how low you can go with a s1 elise, if you're willing to spend the money?? I think I remember reading the original elise target weight was 500Kg, imagine if they had achieved that Its a shame the way cars get heavier and heavier year on year...

SteveB (the guy who put on the firework display at Snetterton) staes his is 610 Kg. Everything that can be removed has been. A little too radical for my taste.

Fair enough - no offense intended - just thought it was worth pointing out for those on here who hadn't come across the Lotus "think of a number and halve it" policy

Just out of interest has anyone on here had their cars weighed?

Last time my tubby was corner weighted it came in at 912kg with OEM hard top and half a tank of fuel. For reference I have AP 4 pots, Nitrons, Team Dynamics wheels, a red top battery, VXR seats (which are lighter), harness bar & harnesses (which add back in about what you save on the seats) - main savings I think are the wheels & the battery . Since then I've got the full Milltek so probably 5 to 6kg lighter now (and I'm not saying what the driver's spare tyre adds on )

Cheers lads. I think I'll defo get the other cars on the weigh bridge, seeing as it's only a few miles away.
No offence taken Mr_M. I wasn't being sarky either it was just the way it came over on the forum. That's why I much prefer to speak to folks, it's easier for them to get the tone.

Believe me, I'll gladly lend them our cars in the future if it means they'll produce VX & Exige bits.

My job will be learning to make composite parts from start to finish. Beginning on the small Fairline boat bits, then moving on to the Aston Martin, SLR McLaren Mercedes, Saleen, WRC, F1, etc.


Still can't believe it, didn't even think I'd get an interview, never mind the job!

Anyone know where the extra weight came from ? S1 Elise – 750kg VX220 NA – 875kg S2 Elise - 860kg VXT - 930kg I know the S1 Elise didn’t have servo brakes, ABS, airbag. Also I believe the NA used a different chassis to the S1 but then the S2 used the same as the NA (correct?) and gained the servo etc This would seem to suggest why the S2 and NA are the same weight (give or take) Where has the VXT gained the extra pounds? Is it purely down to engine and a bit of trim? I pick up my VXT next week (still in shock after finally committing to one – deposit paid) and I would like to have some answers for the “Elise is much better” brigade . Not that I really care coz I love the VXT and the Elise just doesn’t push my buttons
