Hello all, I know this subject has been covered many times and I have searched extensively! :) The pre reg VXT that I bought recently was specced as having central locking, but when the car arrived at my local dealer, the central locking was absent. I took delivery of the car on the basis that the dealer would arrange installation of central locking asap. The dealer is looking to send it to a local 3rd party to have the work carried out, as they say they can't do it themselves. My questions is: Should Vauxhall stock standard parts for the central locking system? ie if I get it installed, should they be able to use the same equipment as if the C/L had be factory fitted? Also, is it reasonable that Vauxhall are saying they can't do it? seems weird that they are unable to do something like this! Cheers thumbsup Antony

Antony, They might feel they cant do it but as long as they order the parts, your car will have all the wiring installed already and it will need the following done. 1) The door locks will need replacing with c/l one and the c/l motor fitted below the lock (all hloe for fixing are alredy there) 2) they need two wiring looms for the door these will come with the rubber pipes to go from the door to the cars a post were the hole is already cut and covered by the rubber gromit. 3) they need to remove the dash and plug the c/l relay into the socket that is at the drivers end of the dash above the light switches. 4) plug the door wiring looms into the existing sockets found at the end of each dash plate and job done. If the dont use standards parts it might be a second remote for you etc. It took me 2 hours to retro fit the c/l to my turbo and cost me £75 fro the parts from a salvage yards. (Will cost vauxhall around £500 for the parts a list price which they dont pay) Hope this helps Marc

Interesting post. When you say the door locks need replacing with c/l ones does this mean you will have another key?

Thanks

I think the C/L locks are blanked off so you can't use the key from the outside.

Thanks for the info Marc. thumbsup

I'll take that info to the dealer and encourage them to use the Vauxhall / Lotus parts even if the 3rd party does the work. Apparently the 3rd party is a company based in Guildford that often does Audio installation work in high marque cars such as Porsche / Ferrari etc -might be better than Vauxhall doing it anyway!

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks again
Antony

Its the inside lock that hold the stricker not the acutal lock the key fits although with c/l fitted the key is not to be used anyway as it will force the motors in the doors.

Other companys can fit c/l to cars with out but on the vx space is a problem and that is way fitting the vauxhall designed stuff make sense, it really is plug and play plus a bit of fiddiling.

Only Turbo owner though the n/a wont have the holes of wiring.

Hi JJ,

Which dealer did it for you? it might be good for me to name names seeing as you appear to be fairly local to me.

My dealer in question is FG Barnes in Guildford.

Same here dealer fitted 18 months ago and no problems. Using the same fob as the original alarm etc. They didn't blank off the door locks. The doors needed to come off to drill the holes for the cables. Mine is an NA.

Hi, sorry about the delay, I've been having trouble loggin in!

It was the supplying dealer Whitmores in Dunton Green near Sevenoaks. Sorry, can't comment on the cost as they did it as part of the sale agreement (seeing as they'd been advertising the car as having c/l and when I turned up reminded them that it hadn't!!!). Its all operated from the original alarm fob. No door pins though (but I reckon that's better for security anyway).

Rob, like I said, I'm not sure since it was done as a condition of me buying the car. I'll check the log wallet to see if they gave me a copy of the invoice or not... What I can say is that the work was carried out locally by a specialist c/l fitter and was guaranteed for a year.
