It can't be that difficult to weld the crack

Welding cast items can be difficult the stress in the material builds up as the materials cools and contracts and can cause more cracking. The am pretty sure the turbo housing have a high magnesium content, so getting welding rods with the same or similar properties can be difficult. But having said that, it can be done. I would say buy VXR turbo is the best option. Yes they do fit :groupjump:

The welding of a cast manifold is not so difficult. But afterwards you have to heat up the complete manifold and let it slowly cool down in a controlled manner, often done in a sand-bed.
Of course using the right welding material is important.

It might not weld, but it will probably braize ok. Brazing is a lower temperature thing... Steve

the astra VXR turbo is a complete turbo and manifold assembly for 500ish from courtenay.. best to buy that than the standard astra/vx turbo. stronger manifold and much better turbo.. get a remap though.
