but you are more likely to have a crash on a trackday than you are on an empty straight road. fair enough he obviously posted the photo to get a reaction out of all the people on here so flame him for that but to be fair he was on an empty stretch of straight road. not like hes going to do anyone harm if he crashes is it unlike if hes out side a school. he'll kill himself.. so what? his choice.. id rather he killed himself than my nephew outside nursery..

You're right. I did expect to get flamed. Especially after James got such a lot of bitchy comments with people posting his reg number in a hope that nobody would buy his car that he was selling. One of those things really. Going over 70mph in the UK is against the law. Do it on an unrestricted stretch of German road and it is perfectly legal. Are the Germans all unsafe nutters? Or do they just have a different opinion on what is acceptable? The road I was on was totally clear, I have not just past my test, have owned and driven many high performance cars on both road and track. The car felt totally fine at that speed albeit I wouldn't fancy driving it for long at that speed as it is defening inside the cabin. I was on the 'Chase' a couple of weeks back. I really enjoyed it and thought it was brilliantly organised, especially the way people were given the option of two groups – the first of which was for those who wanted to go fast. In my opinion, the driving in that group was far more risky than what I did in that photo even though the speeds were obviously much lower. Cars close together on roads unknown to most of us travelling very quickly. Animals, walkers, cyclists, motorbikes, other cars, narrow stretches of tarmac, plenty of places for something to pull out of a hidden turning and so on. Now I am not critisising anyone, I was quite happy keeping pace with everyone else and did it with a big smile on my face for much of it but anyone who thinks that 'type' of driving is 'safe' compared to doing 150 with a massive empty space to do it in, is (in my opinion) deluded.

In my short time patrolling British Motorways....I have dealt with many accidents incidents involving inappropriate use of speed. Then I assist in the aftermarth of these incidents. A vast part of my working life is spent either on the hardshoulder or standing in a live lane, you are not going to have time to stop if I am standing around the next bend dealing with a car in lanes 1 2 or 3. This type of speed is inappropriate on a British M/Way whatever the road conditions are like and whatever your driving abillities are.

Words fail me that you do this and then advertise the fact. I lie COCK comes to mind. :tt:

"first photo of my car" lets hope the last as well.

It wasnt even in this country!!!!-I hate the uk nanny state-you can't do this, you can't do that-surely a cars stopping distance is affected by the road surface/the car/weather etc so why can a corsa or a fiesta etc go the same speed as a vx 220 etc.-surley thats dangerous????

If this whole country wasnt so pre-occupied with speed cameras and actually had police out and about perhaps it would stop all the idiots driving without MOT/TAX/CAR INSURANCE or drink driving-real dangerous meances to the roads.

I just dont got were this obsession with speed in the uk has suddenly come from??? in a bulit up area/village/near a school -fair enough there is no excuse to speed but every single male or female i know speeds on the motorway, most peps i know think nothing of doing 95-100 mph in a corsa/fiesta etc does that make everyone i know a criminal??

when were the stopping distances done??probably about 20 or 30 years before anyone on this board was born.

i do think advertsing the fact on here is a bit silly, but each to there own - knowing the police as i do they wil probably be trying to trace you as we speak-ready for the time you really speed in the uk.

Regardless of when they were done, the stopping distance of a car at 155mph is three times longer than the stopping distance at 90mph.

And I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to try performing an emergency stop in a VX220 that was doing 155mph in the first place. I suspect the back end could get a bit light.

If your not confident in driving the VX do some training days. Money really well spent. thumbsup

no no no, you're only able to fly round blind bends at dangerous speeds if you have done training days, which is perfectly safe providing you're not exceeding 61mph.

How about a deer? A deer could easily give you no more than 200 metres warning between coming out of the bushes at the verge and you hitting it.

I'd guesstimate that an on-the-ball driver doing 150mph would get down to somewhere between 70-90mph in 200 metres. Try hitting a deer at 70mph in a VX220 - I suggest a trip to your solicitor first, though.

I'll bear that in mind - although I think I'd rather use a driver training day more productively than figuring out how to perform an emergency stop safely at vmax.

Why, can a solicitor keep the deer of the motorway? You don't know what you are talking about... happy to lead a group of VXs on a 'spirited' drive through the New Forest where there really are real dangers yet right on my case for exceeding the speed limit on a motorway.

same can happen when going round a blind bend at 70mph into a deer. only then you cant hit the brakes as you will go sideways.

Yes, well done!

The point is, I know and accept that risk, whereas the two of you seem intent that driving at 150mph down the motorway is as safe as sitting at home snoozing in front of the TV!

I don't give a damn how fast you drive down the motorway as long as you don't kill anyone but yourself, I got on your case because 1) you thought it would be good to boast about it, and 2) you attempted to lie when it became apparent that we weren't worshipping you as the king of pushing the accelerator pedal to the floor.

Anyway, this is rapidly turning silly and pointless, so I'm leaving you to it. :P

Is that so. I don't remember saying it was as safe as sitting at home in front of the TV? I do remember you leading the spirited driving group in the New Forest though.

Run along then. Get Mummy to read you some more Bambi stories.

Do they? That's a hobby that completley passed me by.
