Personally if I was able I would take these guys out with me for a couple of shifts.....

Is that an offer then Dave - I'd love to see what you guys get up to *
Must make for an interesting, varied and presumably dangerous shift, do you have to do any specific training courses first?

Have you witnessed many accidents? The amount of nutters that slam their brakes on when they see the reflective coating on the back of the HA vehicles is astonishing!


*I'm a tad squeemish when it comes to blood tho, so I'd have to stay in the back if you got called to an accident

You sumed it it up really...and I'm afraid a ride out with us is not an option due to the risk involved.

But if anyone is at Goodwood FOS on the Friday I will be more than happy to show you the vehicle/equipment we have and have a chat about things.

I love those guys - bloody helpful whether there has been an accident or you have just had a tyre go "pop" and need some assistance. Plus, most motorists seem to think they are "real" Police and adjust their speed accordingly! I do feel safer on the M25 knowing that there are a bunch of HATO's about (no, haven't done 150+ yet - not here to argue!).

I only had an altercation with one when I took my courtesy Corsa back to Luton Vaux - hard shoulder was blocked off and I needed a wee desperately so I was forced to stop and hold up a line of traffic in the slow lane (stupid stupid stupid). After relieving myself there were two HATO'S standing behind the Corsa to see if I needed help. Weren't happy when they found out why I had to stop - but I was happy to drop the Corsa back with neither me or the car stinking of pi$$!

you'll never guess what happened to me this morning! i was minding my own business doing about 150 on a real quiet bit of motorway and a F---ING DEER RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME, it was being chased by 5 kids and had a lump of lorry tyre in its mouth... which it promptly dropped in my path when it saw my car coming!!! what's the chances of that eh? how's my luck!

Yeah I picked it up this morning, that'll learn him won't it, lesson learnt me thinks! Tbh he looks like a right gimp at least it gave every other VX driver a good name!
