Well had my VX for quite a few months now and I am still not sure about the steering! I expected it to be heavy at slow speeds and just thought i would warm to it. But after some time I am not sure it's as it should be. If I drive at anything less than 30mph and turn there is no tendency for the wheel to straighten up on its own, above 30mph it does but just feels tight. Is this how your cars feel? BTW it’s a out of the box 2003 NA! Thanks, Mike F

Mine is exactly the same I would have thought it was normal but a mate of mine who used to work on the VX Turbo's at Palma motorspot had a raz in it and he said it felt stiffer than it should :( He has not had a chance to have a look yet :( Mine is also an NA 03

My steering was getting stiff. I checked my front tyre pressure, and there was no detectable pressure in them! Amazingly the tyres looked fine. Steve

just a couple of psi can make a huge difference, when my car was serviced they put the tyre pressures back to 26 at the front and it made if feel really light compared to the 23 I normally run.

How has this gone Mike? ..bet you a million it was your tyre pressures being too low. The lack of power steering can add to heaving steering at low speeds but as R1CHY was implying ;) You'd have to be a real candidate for the 'mr muscle' adverts for it to create a problem. The next question you'll be asking is ''What tyre pressures do you guys run?'' ;) :D  ..(BTW, i don't broadcast mine because i'm fed-up with being told it's too low   ) Hope you have your heavy ' :tt: ' steering sorted by now our-kid thumbsup :)

No not sorted yet its still raining and i have been working on my new alloy oil filler cap! been running 26psi which i have checked but alway with the same gauge(michelin pump) so will try a get somthing else to check them with.

No wont be asking what tyre pressure you are running, there is a search function for such things if you did not know already :)

alloy oil filler cap..Sounds interesting, best of luck with that then thumbsup

 Gosh you'd have to have your best 'searching' head on and scour back a while to find that then ;) :D

If you're still unsure after checking the pressures and changing acordingly or not, then try to get along to a 'meet' and check others opinions (if you trust another to drive your car that is ;) ) I'd let you drive around the corner and back for comparisons sake (but then you never see me at meets :P  )

All the best :)

Yes the search works well, you said back in March 2005! that you use F22 R26. I will try a few different presures see what its like. Although I might not use it this week as it might get wet! Might give a local owner a go in it to see how it compares.

Perhaps an Elise would handle better?

Naaa I dont like Elise's, to expensive to run, crap engine (well the rover one at least). Was tempted to try an S2 Elise but was out of my price range as a third car!

With front wheels off the ground, you can easily move wheels by pushing a front wheel and it tends to continue with a little momentum. Do you regulary drive other cars with power steering?

Only the vx, its not the steering being heavy that is the issue really its the fact that at speeds up to 30 -35 the steering does not make any atempt to self centre, I would not expect it to at say 15 - 20 mph but just seems odd. I used to have a 1967 MGBGT now that did have very heavy steering but it still self centered at low speeds, and was great fun drive in the wet :D
