My gut feeling is telling me that vxr 16 lives on but where we do not know. ...
I'm pretty sure that jimmy888 VXR No15 will turn out to VXR No16, but we won't know until the previous or current owner (someone has suggested jodrell) of VXR No15 comes forward to say if it is still in his ownership? The VIN list doesn't list VXR No15 with an owner.
I can actually finish this story off. I brought a VXR220 off Mr Willis (the previous owner of car 16 as stated by Imran) in August this year, registration J9VXR. It is serial no 15 not 16. The car (No 15) was a dealer demo for a year before Mr Willis brought it in Dec 2005 and changed the number plate J9 VXR on to it, and it retained the plate ever since. Mr Willis kept it for 10 years until now, doing 13k miles, and apart from paint bubbles from keeping it outside the car is mint. My car is also HPi clear, and I had the car serviced at my local VX220 specialist Top Gear Automotive and was given a clean bill of health, with no apparent damages or previous major repairs. Car 15 is in my garage, At the time I did not know the storyline with Imran as it is thread regarding car 16, so I did not ask Mr Willis about the incident. But Mr Willis appears a perfect gentleman and a genuine seller. So my take on the story is this: It is written somewhere on the web (pistonhead I think) that Mr Willis had given an explanation on the incident. Basically he had car 16 and had an accident in it and it was written off (but apparently HPi failed to record it). He then brought another VXR (no 15) and changed the number plate J9VXR to car no 15 and kept it until this year. Regarding what happened to car no 16, I did an HPi check on the number plate GK54ZZL (car 16) and the story is as follows: Car is recorded as insurance theft on 11/4/2009 Current keeper acquired it on: 15/2/2007 ie it was still under Imran’s name when it was reported stolen, ie he never sold it. So there you go, car 16 is gone. Car 15 wearing J9VXR is in my garage, ready to be enjoyed next summer.
Jimmy888 can we ask what the last 4 numbers of your VIN is? Is it 7574 or 7576? It should either be on the dashboard or a sticker on the drivers side by the door pin.

The poor guy (Jimmy888) has purchased his vxr number 15 from the original owner of vxr number 16 (the guy who wrote off number 16).
Not from the guy who rebuilt the 'smashed up - rebuilt - stolen - missing' number 16.
Therefore how can number 15 be a dodgy car

Good question Vocky. But what happens if number 15 is actually number 16 or should it be the other way around? Or that if number 15 was 15 and not 16 albeit from one owner? But why would the same owner have 15 and 16?? Or they had 16 and it got stolen and then they bought 15 and transferred the plates from the 16 to 15 and them sold it on? I am getting confused. Please ignore me.The poor guy (Jimmy888) has purchased his vxr number 15 from the original owner of vxr number 16 (the guy who wrote off number 16). Yes too true Vocky, I didn't read the original post from jimmy888 correctly. I read it as he had brought it off Imran and not Mr Willis, my mistake!
I'm sure VXR No.15 is correct and that it isn't a dodgy car. But it would still be nice to know what the build number of VXR No.15 is so it can be settled.
Am I right in saying that:
Mr Willis owned VXR No.16 with the Reg J9 VXR, then sold VXR No.16 to Imran?
Mr Willis also owned VXR No.15 aswell or later on and then transferred the plate J9 VXR to it?
Mr jimmy888 please accept my apologies for not reading your original post correctly.

There are plenty of folks called Imran out there; could it be a different one?

I doubt they would have the balls to register or even express an interest in this site or the facebook page if they have a stolen car, let alone 'one of a kind'

Christ that was a long read.
My synopsis:
Great beginning, questionable middle and a great twist at the end like all good stories should have.
