Hi all Great website  Drove from Wilmslow to Whitby on Boxing Day. There are some incredible roads after u get off the A64. There's an amazing double hairpin on the downhill that even the VX needs to take care (well I do ;) ) On the way home we were diverted and had to go on a B road via Driffield and then on towards the M62. This is one of the best VX type roads I've ever been on. It's hilly, very bendy and u can use some speed as the bends are well signed. If u're ever up that way give it a go :( MalcolmD

hey Malcolm, I'm over in Macclesfield so I guess we must drive a few of the same roads! One of my favourites for a quick blast is the A54 Congleton to Buxton which of course then leads back to the Cat and Fiddle road back to Macc but there's loads of other good ones around Cheshire/Derbyshire (A515 Buxton to Sudbury - A50 junction - is another great one) as long as you don't get stuck behind the granny brigade :D btw I don't own a VX but mean to test drive soon, weighing up the available options at the mo' Cheers, Rob

The road I mentioned at the start of this thread is the B1228 :D Hi Rob - Get a VX pdq and test some of the roads all over Cheshire, especially when u get off the main drags. I recently used the route over the Cat & Fiddle and it was a blast as there was no other traffic ;)

Got to agree with the Macc - Cat & Fiddle road. A great road no matter what car you are in (even my old 1.1 Punto). I finally got to use my VX on it a few weeks ago - it didn't disappoint. Can't wait to find an excuse to visit when the roads are drier and less chance of fog, but more chance of sheep & police in spotter planes.

  • Interests:Currently drive a TVR Cerbera but I fancy a change. I'm not 100% sure what to go for next as there isn't much to compete with the performance and image of the cerbie. I've been thinking of the Elise/VX as they're so different from the TVR, bit unsure about the whole sill issue though, at 6'1 with a narrow garage getting in and out could be an issue!

The great round trip from Macc is to take the Cat and Fiddle (A537 I think) to Buxton, nip across to the A515 down to Ashbourne then back to Macc on the A52/523. The 52/523 is a great road but has in the last few years been taken over by evvvviiiiiiiiiillllll speed cameras, I'd only recommend pushing the car on that road if you know it pretty well, or basically be prepared to slam the anchors on through every village on route - Waterhouses being the worst with 3 in less than a mile ;) Other good roads I can suggest would be the A6006 Kegworth-Melton Mowbray then onto the A606 MM to Stamford (A1) Going across the northside of Rutland water. I can also recommend the Noel Arms in Whitwell for food and accomodation - after the food I didn't feel like driving ;) The A46 between Lincoln and Grimsby also has some potential, admittedly only been on it once in my gfs Ka :( and a visit to the Swallow Inn in Swallow is also recommended. I find my stomach to be a very good navigation device - who needs GPS ;) Last that springs to mind is a drive I did between Leintwardine (Hereford/Shropshire border) over to Aberdovey, not sure about the road numbers I ended up on but there was hardly any traffic and lots of lovely twisty/fast roads - bliss!!! Alas I can't remember the name of the cafe we went in but it's run by Mary from Ireland who does a very good fish and chips, also the honey ice cream factory in nearby Towyn is worth a visit :D btw I'm not a total fat bar steward - how would I even consider a VX ;)

Rob There are 18 speed cameras in 18 miles on the A52. They start in Rushton Spencer (3 or 4) and appear quite regularly. Waterhouses has the 3 u mention. The 1st from Macc is always live, so is the last one as u leave. There are 7 or 8 in Leek but most are never live. Generally about 4 to 6 are live. Detectors are wonderful things ;)

The A5 from the M1 (Jn20,19 or 18) down to Milton Keynes. You can see the M1 from parts of the road and I am usually going quicker! Great passing places, no cameras (oh, one in a villiage I think) I average about 65-70 along it!
