So I'm going to spray the V on my silver NA black at the weekend and I have realised by doing this the grill is now going to look a bit cr@p where its its taken 5 years of abuse on the front of a VX220 and isn't perfectly black anymore. Has anyone painted they're grills. Would smooth hamerite and a paint brush do the trick? or does anyone have a better idea. Cheers

I used some regular body work paint and it looks spot on. Been on for at least 6 months with no problems.

Cheers, did you bother with any sort of primer/preparation (apart from removing the di-sected bees in the grill) or just paint stright onto the existing surface.

I use ProjectPaint (?) a little tub of black enamel gloss from Wilkos :) It costs £2.49 and I have just done mine and they look spanking :) I did them 2 years ago and it worked really well and lasted well - the front grill does get a hammering. Really cheap and really effective.

Here's the stuff - Plasti-Kote not ProjectPaint  got the price right though. I couldnt find the black gloss on their website so this is white gloss...try it you never know ;-)

If anyone has anything better I'd like to know.

Thanks for everyones help on this.

Half a days work and no dramas to speak of.I'm chuffed with the result looks great. I used that enamel paint from Wilko for the grill, the gloss i used needs to dull down a little but still looks great.

Standard Halfords primer and satin black tins should work fine (the smaller size tins have a better spray pattern) :)

As Mandarin said, Plastic primer and satin black spray paint from Halfrauds. I rubbed down the V before very lightly to smooth out the surface, get rid of any laquer and stone chips in places. And that was it, 2 coats of primer and about 4 or 5 light costs of black.

Dave Evad,

I did mine today inspired by you. Took a trip to Halfrauds after winning £30 worth of Capital Bonds (they look like the new £20 for any interested in WTF they are) and set about masking. And masking some more. And a bit more.

Well chuffed with the result, black V's look amazing on Calypso red VX's and my grille is looking spot on too.

So, thank you.
