Ye of little faith - you may mock...

...but

It only bloody worked :jump: :D

At 125 degrees the adhesive become 'stringy', but not quite enough, as below:

Posted Image

So cranked her up that little bit further to around 135/140, et voila:

Posted Image

Lens came straight off - no force required thumbsup

Even better, the black surround on the lens stayed intact, and the adhesive remained stuck to the light body, so easy to remove - very neat:

Posted Image

No visible deformation to the light at all, and the foam has stayed intact too! - May be best to put some foil over to disperse any direct heat tho

PS - I take NO responsibility for the consequences of anyone cooking their lights

and yes XXX, I have been :drink:

Edit - now we just need someone to test a headlight (to see if the lenses are good for 140 degrees :) )

If you have enough room in the oven, prob best to put a second baking sheet above the light - the elements in my oven are behind the interior plating, but some ovens have them exposed (so higher direct heat) and make sure you turn the fan setting on to get even coverage thumbsup

The lens already had a large corner section missing from it (from a previous [obviously failed] attempt at removing the lens with a scalpel) :( I wouldn't have experimented with a good nick tubby light  If you have a go, make sure you turn the temp up nice and slow thumbsup

20mins ? half an hour ?

Not sure about time mate, kept taking it out to have a play and then upping the temp

Was prob at around 130 for about 10 mins, but would be best to keep increasing temp from about 50 upwards and keep checking it (the last 10-15 degrees made all the difference)

Can't be totally sure how reliable/accurate the temp knob is on the cooker either (it's a 1980's jobbie! :beat: )

Four plastic 'nut' type things accessed through the boot. The wiring harness has a plug that can be disconnected, make sure you remove the harness with the the bulbs/holders before attempting to cook it :) According to 'Engineering Laboratories inc', the melting point of PMMA is 160 degrees, so don't go above 140 thumbsup (prob should have done that research a little earlier)

75-100 was enough to get mine off, definately start low and let the heat in the oven build up. I put mine in a cold oven and turned it to 75, checked them after about 8 minutes and they weren't quite there. So put it upto 100 and checked again after a few minutes, this was enough to slowly lift the clear cetion off.

Will the original adhesive still be good enough to stick it back together again with?
