to be honest the oven may not be the best solution for the fronts there is quite a lot of metal in there I think my head lamps have been bodged repaired I've had a couple of bits have dropped off so re fitting could be interesting :poke:

First off Thanks to Chris for making it possible for me to even think about doing this mod Imnotworthy
Posted Image

So used the Oven for the head lights

pre heated the oven to 100 put the head lamp in for 10 mins

Posted Image

this was enough to let me run a knife between the lens and lamp holder if I'd had a heat gun it would have been much simple to remove the previous sealant
Posted Image
Loads of scum in side
rubbed it down a bit first
Posted Image

a couple of coats and a flatten with a dry wet and dry fine paper
Posted Image

Then re sealed with aquaria sealant
Posted Image

Got them resting over night with abit of weight on them

re fix and re focus tomorrow .
:sleepy:

One thing I did notice is that I appear to have weapons grade masking tape. The residue left from it on the inside of the lenses took forever to get off, which was handy :beat:

Has het back of the headlight unit melted/distorted? Seems like your light units have drooped inside the housing on the shot above (may be angle of shot), especially the dipped beam projector lense seems to be resting on/behind the plastic?

Bye, Arno.

This is brilliant the thought of VX owners accross the country cooking they're lights in the oven is priceless. I can just see it on Gordan Ramsay now.. Oven 100 degrees... VX220 Rear Cluster in, COOK 10 mins! VX220 Rear Cluster with lens removed.....DONE! My drivers side rear needs the glass taking out to get rid of the scum where i've had some water get in so i may well have to give this little trick a go. Must admit i'm rather scared i'm going to end up with a puddle of molten plastic and a few bulbs in the middle. Out of the people who have done this has anyone managed to deform they're lights at all?

It won't melt Id try 100 for about 10 mins Have a heat gun ready to help remove any sealant that didn't come off at first Make sure you mask both sides of the lens to make sure. You don't want to mark or paint it :beat: This is a really easy mod to do none should be scarred to do this one I spent a total of £18.88 on this mod Paint soft sanding block sandpaper (which you don't really need ) Masking tape 12 croc clips aquaria sealant Nice and simple one to do. thumbsup

I know
I've gone all Jack Barkley
I'll be running around in a pair of Grey overalls soon with
rag hanging out me pocket . poof

Wack'um in the oven get the seal soft run a knife through the seal

use a heat gun to warm any remaining seal
as the unit cools down

I may even attempt the 2.4 manifold swap with out the use of a mechanic Imnotworthy

What did people use to bond the clear light cover back onto the light unit itself? Is "Aquaria sealant" a strong enough adhesive to actually keep these from dropping off? Any other suggestions (preferably in the next 2 mins as I desperately need to get to a DIY shop before 6pm :( :( :( )

Yes it is strong enough

Mine have not dropped off
you must have a good key for the sealant to bond to
and at least 6 strong spring clamps to hold it all together whilst it drys
