R3d, do you also have the k&n 57i Induction kit as well? If so by how much does it increase the noise level? I've got to say my car is a little loud with the sports exhaust and induction kit. If it makes it any louder i'll need earplugs :)

Yes i have the 57i, but i have always loved loud cars. (Twin turbo supra with full HKS racing ex) etc... I don't actually find it too intrusive, if anything it makes driving the car even more enjoyable, making it pop and whistle. (full tilt in second then back right off!!!) This is what has really got more noticable, the volume is only slightly more. It is loudest with the hard top on, then open topped, then quietest with the soft top! strange really. regards Mike. :D

If this is a really dumb question I apologise in advance. If Regal fit a sports cat and downpipe do you lose the pre-cat anyway?

I'm not sure, looking at the joins in the exhaust it would be logical to assume yes! The pre-cat hides just inside the exhaust straight after the manifold, my guess is that the new downpipe would bolt directly to the manifold, thus replacing the pre cat section. If you go the sports cat route keep me informed, i would be interested to see how it performs. Mike.

Sports cat is definitely on the list but I think it'll be an induction kit and software upgrade first, and then exhaust mainfold, sports cat and exhaust all together when finances permit. Jim

Jim

exhaust should be taken care of first, along with a decent free-breathing filter.
everything else follows these 2 steps, exp. ported mainifolds, cams and chiptuning!!
if the engine cannot breath in and out freely, nothing else will help gaining horses and you will end up disdappointed.....

Just posted this elsewhere but it fits in here also (too many threads on exhausts and modding now!) Just had a ride in R3D's VX. Vauxhall sports exhaust, K&N induction, pre cat removed and it makes a hell of a difference. (thats ingnoring the wonderful noise it makes) Mine felt so 'normal' under acceleration in comparison and thats with one person in the car rather than the two in the modded one.

Thanks Ricky,

Change of plan then! :D

So, Regal exhaust and the K+N first - And I guess while they're at it change to the sports cat too if it loses the pre-cat?

Now, where did I put that Visa card......

Just been browsing the Regal site and thinking about the bits they offer and the cost involved.

Can we make this an idiots guide to improving the performance/handling. If you can't afford to go the whole hog in one go, in what order do you do things? Regal seem to suggest the software upgrade before the exhaust.

quite absurd...
a chiptuning should always be custom made on THE car after every other mod has been added....it is the final optimization.
I think Regal created the different stages for different level of tuning, i.e. stock car only, exhaust only, exh.+dbilas, etc..... then will come another mapping along with the new cams.....it cannot be otherwise! ( I mean, it can, but is a waste of money, been there done that.)

Ricky, Brilliant! And thanks for the advice. I'm absolutely clear now about what order to do things. Really appreciate your help. Jim

Minime/Ricky2772 You two seem to have the most mods on your VX's (respect!) - can you list what you've had done and what effect (in power terms or general feel or both) each mod had? Minime - how much was the Spax supension upgrade? Cheers.

I'll let you know better next week when I get it back, with new wheels and exhaust, a one-of-a-kind, regal manifold, homemade kat-bypass and german backbox! B) :P suffice to say that the Spax set-up itself transform the car, making power mods unnecessary in real-world driving.

A bit of advice.... When trying to remove rusted or stubbon bolts, don't use a toothed socket. They'll only round the bolt causing an even bigger headache! Use a hexagonal socket. I learnt this when trying to remove a brake caliper from the volvo <_<
