Hi all Simple one for all you in the know... Just wanna confirm whether the F23 gearbox in the VX220 NA is the same as the rest of the Vauxhall range, ie the Astra, Vectra, Corsa etc... My understanding is that the VX NA and Turbo use the same gearbox, but have different mounts... If this is the case, then surely all the other Vauxhalls have different mounts too ?? With gearbox dying, I just wanted to know what my options were. Money is ultratight, as i just took out a big mortgage so i could keep the VX warm in the winter months, in my new garage so anything on anyone with any experiences of reconditioning gearboxes would be most helpful.. Cheers fellas...

What's wrong with the gearbox? Sure it's not just the cables seized up? chinky chinky

Nope, been at a stealers (dealers) , and they diagnosed that it needed a new gearbox.... Not entirely sure it is the box, but wanted to make sure that I knew a little more about the gearboxes before going any further. They did disconnect the linkage, but the box is still impossible to change from inside the engine bay. Could be a problem with gear selector, but found myself at a roundabout unable to get any gear whatsover... After 10 mins of trying and a lot of irate drivers behind me, i managed to get 2nd and limped home at 20mph !!! Seem to be a lot of posts relating to gearbox problems, mostly linkage related, but i think this is more terminal... just surprised how it went from fine to unusable so quickly...

the gearbox is the same for a 2.2 vx220 and 2.2 astra thumbsup the internals are the same for the vectra 2.2 but the gearbox mounting is different thumbsdown the vxT gearbox will not fit the 2.2 engine and the diff is a different ratio too

Top man Vocky !!! Have handed the car over to a mechanic mate, so hopefully he'll be able to diagnose the issue better than the stealer... Will keep you all posted with my findings !!!

whereabouts are you based?

Am in West Yorkshire. Was gonna take the vehicle over to Pure Lotus, but changed my mind after really struggling to drive it any real distance in 2nd gear... Why do you ask?

UPDATE - Mechanic has told me that when he drained the oil off, there seemed to be some watery fluid present... Any ideas ? wonder if this has been tampered with by previous owner.... Wouldnt really buy one off ebay, as there would be no warranty... was thinking of reconditioning my own box... Anyone know of any gearbox specialists in West Yorks ?

Have one sat in the garage, 32,000 miles if you're interested. Based near Manchester.

Hi,

Is it working ??!?!?! Would you be willing to offer a warranty with it ? Also, surely it should be on the car, and not in the garage :)
