The dot codes refer to the compound of the tyre.
As for mixing tyres, there's nothing worse you can do, with the result being a crash due to different handling characteristics front and rear.

Won't be doing that then! I take it the vx has a softer compound, than the normal tyres, will it effect the handling a great amount?

I could be wrong but I thought the compound (or possibly the sidewalls) for the VX were harder than the Audi and Lotus versions and yes it will affect the handling. Worth a search as it has been covered before. chinky chinky

It'll affect the handling more than the money you'll save from buying them.

Speak to Dave Blackley @ Elite Garages on 01403 269694, tell him Oli sent you, he knows about the dot codes and i've not found anyone cheaper for tyres.

A Quick Search Later which turns up the Great Dot Code debate 2006 chinky chinky

I just got a written reply from Bridgestone that the DOT code is not relevant:

Thank you for your enquiry.

As you have correctly assumed the dot code reference is not relevant
when purchasing the tyres. In case you have any problems though, I can
confirm that our product code for the correct tyre is IPC 77434.

Kind regards

I've used both the Loti and Vx specific dot code bridges and been unable to tell the difference, the both wear at the same rate, they feel exactly the same on road and they feel exactly the same after a hard trackday

Yep had a look at it  His tyre pressure was 30 psi no wonder the front felt "light" nothing to do with the Dot code.

That said the price of the specific bridgestone for the vx are normally cheaper than the elise ones thumbsup
