Having said that - brakes can be a very personal thing - it depends what you're trying to achieve? If you want a pad that's 95% of the way there for road use* and will do very well on track then get the 42's. If you want the 'ultimate' in stopping power then get 14's - you just need to remember they take a bit of warming up and will squeal like stuck pigs on the road.
* to qualify that before anyone flames me... I know I drive like miss daisy on the road - (and before anyone else says it - yes, some would say on the track too

[Personally, having tried Std Cheese, 1155's, SBS ProCarbon, 42's, 14's and 15's, I run 14's front, 15's rear - but my car is set up for track work]

I think I will go for RS4-2's as I use the car mostly on the road but will do a track day every 6 weeks or so. I had 1144's on my old NA and whilst they were good enough for the road I found that they weren't good enough for the track. I had some performance friction PF97's on the clio cup I had between VX's I found these very good with no fade on track however the dust from them was pretty much impossible to get off the wheels and body work.
If you are a 6 week trackday regular I would consider the RS14s. The RS4-2s are OK but not a big leap up from 1144s. The RS14s ar OK on the road and the 'they need to warm up' before working is very overdone.

I don't disagree at allI'm running RS14s on the road and personally I find they work fine from cold, from what I've read and experienced they're the best no holds barred pad. They can squeel a little, the create a lot of brake dust and they chew through (inexpensive) disks but for stopping the car I don't think there's any better.

btw - the 42's also create a lot less dust and are much kinder to disks....

If you're genuinely going to track every six weeks then RS14's without any question
I track every 4-6 weeks and the 4-2's are more than sufficient. If you were doing a 60 minute track session I'd say, without a doubt, go for the 14's or 15's. But I've yet to experience the slightest bit of fade in the 15-20 minute sessions I tend to do before pitting for a break. Maybe the suit me and my style better than for others but I just don't think anything more aggressive is necessary for what is still a road car.

Although I will be tracking the car quite often it is still my only car which I use every day so don't want pads that only work when warmed up. I think I will go for the 4-2's see what they are like as they will be an improvement on 1144's and a vast improvement on the standard pads that are on the car at the moment.
I have a feeling I'm inadvertantly creating a bit of confusion here, in which case my apologies

Just to echo what Muncher has just said - RS14's work fine when they're cold. Period.

Just to echo what Muncher has just said - RS14's work fine when they're cold. Period.Personally I'd be happier with stone cold RS14's than hot 1144's or 55's. My point is just that they do work better when they're (track) hot - and they keep working for longer too - i.e. much more resistant to fade. But to re-iterate, that doesn't mean they don't work when cold.

Bed them in properly & they're fine

I thought RS14's were primarily an endurance pad. High Ceramic content which makes them munch discs.
Yes, they do chew through discs... seems to go through a set of discs with a set of pads. No worries though - discs are cheap.
As others have said, I've had no problems with them from cold.

Yep, no problems from cold.
Set of discs per set of pads? Are you getting your discs off a pikey from ebay machining them out of a metallic substitute on a lathe that fell off the back of a lorry?

Should be doing much better than that.
