Hey guys, Just driving home from work and what seems like the entire dash display has suddenly give up! I can't get it to come back on at all - The rev counter does not work, same with the speedo or the fuel/clock (just does not light up) Anyone got any ideas at all what it could be please? Thanks

sorted now..... phew... ..if it happens to anyone else in future try holding the reset button for 10seconds and turning the ignition on.

lol... Joking aside, is it possible to get a clock for a VX? Thats the only thing I miss since I got it. I dont wear a watch.

I just use my radio??? Do you not have a clock on yours?

It has happened again!! All dash has gone out, speedo, rev counter millage clock, temp, everything. Dash reset is not working either ( . I keep trying the ignition and the millage clock flashes up for a second then goes out, the needles sound as if they are resetting but then don't? Also i did notice condensation on the inside the dash clocks when i got in the car initially. Any advice? Cheers

This is so weird! The dash is back on again now, everything working ok?!?! Do you think it could be anything to do with the heat? I keep the car in a carport overnight and during the day most of the time. The car has been parked in the sun all morning, just got home and parked it under the car port, and to my surprise after being parked up for 20 mins, the dash has sprung into life again? I still have 4 months of a dealer warrenty left, do you think its worth trying to persuade them to investigate?

I've seen a few threads about condensation appearing on the clock face when left in the sun - does this happen to yours at all? Failing that you could try removing the ECU fuse for 15 mins and see if that helps

The first time it happened there was no condensation, however on the occurance there was?

Would removing the ECU fuse still help?

If there's water in the unit then I'd say that was the most likely cause If you're still in warranty take it to the garage on a hot day and show them the condensation

Strange though, I have had the car since last sept and it hasnt shown any signs until now?

Do you think there is anyway i can seal it back up myself, thing is the condensation went away after about 10mins on the motorway with the roof off ( ?

Thing is the only way the dealer is going to show any interest in the problem is if the condensation is there or the dash isnt working - difficult if its not lasting long.

I can put up with it now and then but am just concerned if it will get worse/ cause permanent damage?

Do you think it may be worth undoing the screws around the indicator storks, removing the panel and checking the connections/ wiring?

yeah i could do - I need to check if the problem is covered anyway. Its one of those warrenties you buy extra, only i managed to get a free one for one year! (it's not a vauxhall dealer either). I tried getting the expension tank changed on it a while back but they wouldn't have it grrrr!

Just got off the phone with dealer. They will not cover it! Any ideas what i can do to rectify the problem myself? I was thinking as a simple solution to get one of those foil covers to go over the dash when its parked in the sun and whilst I take the roof off etc as the problem does not seem to occur once i'm moving? Just keeps the heat away and maybe help prevent condensation build up. Sounds daft but worth a shot ?

When you open the Stack backplate, there is a small sachet with material which should prevent any moisture inside. You can take this out and dry the stuff in an oven on very low setting. (1-2h on 50-60*C should do it) Maybe it helps.

Thanks, is that the plate that is below the clocks held on with 4 screws? As well as drying out the material as you suggested maybe a sachet or two or silica would help as well?
