May pop into Compomotive tomorrow if I get a chance :)

As and when you speak to them next, can I suggest asking them about their knowledge of TUV and other 'type-approval (etc)' issues in Europe?

Will do thumbsup

How much do they weigh in this way?
Regards

She didn't know a specific weight (should be around the same as the Speedlines tho as they are the same design, width, offset etc) She said that this design of wheel can be anything upto 14kg for the rear, (where standard are 11kg), but didn't know for this specific size (as it's not yet supplied by them!) - she said they will attempt to use some clever machining to reduce the weight if possible thumbsup

To be honest the main reason I want them is looks B)

Are you serious? 14Kg :o Do not see the fascination with these wheels and at 14Kg per wheel, OMG! Surely unsprung weight like this will ruin the handling? If they were a re-run of the OZ's then  at, Front 16" x 6.5J ET 24 (weight 7kg's) Rear 17" x 7.5J ET 35 (weight 7.1kg's) then fair enough.

Yes weight of wheels will be an issue for me...rather spend bucks on lighter wheels if there going to be heavy, will see what progress has been made on return from hols.

Right then, went in on Friday

The dricector came out to see me, and gave me a quick tour around :)

Then he comes out with the wheels (from the stores out the back!) he had a 16" x 7" and a 17" x 8". Note that the 'dish' in the 17" will not be so deep (this will be changed to allow for a larger offset than they would normally make) the 16 x 7" was very dusty!

The main rim on the 'normal design' has been over engineered due to these wheels being used as rallycross approved and on cars that weigh >1500kgs and comes in at 6.5mm thick

Therefore, due to modern material / processes, the rim will be taken down to 5mm thick, and the inner spiggot will have material machined off (a tooling process that wasn't available when these wheels were originally designed)

This should take the weight to ~11kg for the rears (the ones in the showroom didn't seem all that heavy to be fair!)

The CAD engineer is going to model the wheels so we can get a definate weight, and will send me images of the wheels in black finish - this will also show the depth of the 'dish' on the rears

TUV approval is a no go - it costs around £3000 a pop, and is car specific, not just wheel-type
He did mention that TUV is much like an MOT and people tend to simply put the originals back on at the time of the test (much like CATs in this country I guess :))

He also said that providing we have a confirmed 30 orders, they will take the payment directly from individuals instead of having to hand your money to a random stranger (me!) thumbsup

So.. looks like it's all confirmed and set to go - time for that list I guess :D

Will this be a one-off manufacture? as I'm pretty well stuffed if I ever trash my speedlines and wanted to replace them like for like (i'm not a huge fan of the look of the TDs)

Yep, the minimum order is 30 sets, once that is reached a batch production run will be started

(one-offs may be possible, but at higher cost)

Of course there is no guarantee they will be an exact match (esp colour) so you'd be better off buying a set :poke: :)

They can start as soon as they recieve the order - then a 4-6 week wait for casting / machining / painting until the full batch is ready for despatch I think money can be paid in two lots - 50% on order and the remainder prior to despatch thumbsup
