Is it safe to fit alloys purely on the strength of the bolts? Do cars that use studs and nuts do this anyway?

Had rear wheels on the front of mine before new wheels fitted last year. I believe I had 205 's on the front. No spacers and no rubbing.

im on 225F 245R and the fronts rub on full lock. 215 seems to be the max altho every car is slightly different as the hand made tolerances arent tight

Fronts are e26 rears are e36 so if I get a 10mm spacer for the rear wheels they will also be e26 which should keep the scrub radius the same, spring rate will be slightly lower as there would be an extra 20mm more leverage from the extra width of a 215 tyre. The hub spigot is around 15-16mm deep so a 10mm spacer will leave me on 5-6mm spigot to mount the wheel.
Question is, would you trust a wheel on only 5-6mm of spigot, I not sure how important the hub spigot is for securing the wheels or if the bolts can take most of the force. Or am I doing too much research?

Upon doing more research it appears that the hub spigot only acts as a locator and is not load bearing. The wheel stays in place due the friction between the wheel and hub face cause by the wheel bolts.

You would love a 4c thenI run 205's on the front, on rear wheel set up, they have never rubbed, tyres do look a bit euro look as in stretched on rubber, I will say the car handles a bit better on a good road, but in b road areas and country roads, its both hands on the wheel, it tram lines like hell, at higher speeds it can scare the pants off you
