Also from Seloc

our other friend was in a car in front of him, apparantley he clipped a car whilst overtaking, then veered into the curb and went into a spin, and as he was spinning, both clamshells were already off and it was bare chassis. She was shocked at how easily it smashed to pieces.

and

yes he was speeding, but as you say, everyone has done it in these cars. The road it was on was a quiet long road, national speed limit with no houses etc on it. Just a hotel, it was right near the Oakley Court Hotel on the A308 between maidenhead and Windsor for anyone that knows the area. you can't miss the spot, there's loads of flowers and pictures there already.

Let some good come from this insofar as it reminds us all just to be very careful out there in our little plastic cars.

I'd like to know what caused it to burst into flames/how fast he was going etc; only the 4th fatal VX crash I can think of.

Thoughts to family/friends.

Anything could have caused it to catch fire - all it takes is for something to be ripped off or out and for it to be splashed on something electrical/hot etc.. - freak part of the accident imo.

It's terrible news, even worse now it's confirmed what happened - As mentioned i hope his bro's girlfriend pulls through

RIP :grouphug:

Very sorry to hear this. I actually read this article somewhere before the car was identified... and I immediately thought "no loss there then"! Just goes to show how careful we have to be when reading papers and watching the news. My sympathy goes out to all involved.

Always concerned when 'write off' cars are involved in accidents, but it does appear this one was not too badly damaged in the original crash. Juliarno appears to have bought the salvage in early 2005 and kept it for a couple of years. His sale ad is here

Yeah i remember this car being cat D damaged - iirc it was originally from south wales - but hey lets not jump to conclusions, previous damage may have nothing to do with the accident - after all it doesn't take much for these cars to end up on the Cat D list [as we all know] - We can all post what if's and maybe's about the crash - but unless you were there you'll never know. I'm sure that the crash investigation will find the cause. As mentioned theres every chance that Chris's family/close friends may read this so lets not start chinese whispers. thumbsup

Whatever the circumstances the loss of life is always a sad time. My deepest sympathy to all Chris's family and freinds may he rest in peace.

Echo sentiments above. Sorry to hear of anyone losing their life in an RTA but it hits harder when it's in a car we all drive and a member of the VX community. I drive that road daily and they have recently put 'shingle' down that stretch (if it's the part of road I think it is). I haven't driven on it in the VX but would imagine it doesn't help grip a great deal. Anyway, all speculation and in no way important when considering a young lad has lost his life. Hope the girl recovers fully and my thoughts go out to the family and friends. Be careful out there in your plastic cars, life is fragile and can be taken in an instance. :grouphug:

ive been reading this since the 1st post was put up on sunday. It is very sad news to hear when ever this happens, and when ever I read about this sort of thing happening these days it does hit me hard. My heart truly goes out to all his family and friends, whose lives will NEVER be the same again. I know this as my best mate was killed in an rta on his way home from work this year due to another drivers error. I feel for the unfortunate drivers family, and really hope the passenger comes to a full recovery (which tbh i dont think she ever will mentally after being so closely involved in the crash). I am very sorry to hear this terrible news :(

I also hate it the way the media hype things up and clearly show NO respect to the people that it effects. The NASTY reporter of my friends tragic accident just put a quote at the end saying 'did you know the dead man?' thich I thought was so horrible to read.

:(

Yellow_or_Black? has asked me to post on her behalf as she is unable to access the site at work. YoB plans to contact Chris' friend on SELOC tonight and will post up a link to the flowers that she is proposing and the suggested wording that she has written. YoB has had a number of people contact her with regards to donating towards flowers and would like you to know that it is in hand. She will be along as soon as possible with an idea of the process to handle the donations best. Thanks All.

I agree with that. I have seen plenty take extraordinary risks when out. Hammering around blind corners, bad overtaking manouvres etc. It really does bring it home to me personally how easily an accident can just be round the next bend.

Firstly I'd like to add my thoughts to those of everyone else on here, my condolences to Chris's family and friends, and my wishes for a full and fast recovery to the girl involved. :grouphug: There really is nothing more I can think of to say to help makes things easier. RIP Chris Secondly, please can a SELOC regular put a link to their thread on here please? Thirdly, with regard to the inaccuracy of the initial reports, isn't there anywhere that can be used to make a formal complaint as far as this "exarrated reporting protocol" is concerned. It must have made a difficult time even harder to read for Chris's Friends.
