I'm on the lookout for tyres, and Compomotive have pointed me to Kumho (UK HQ based about 15 mins away from me!)

I've had a search, but can only find thread on these in Valhalla, so I don't understand them :(

Has anyone used them over here? - I spoke to them today and they said a 20%+ discount would be available for a multiple purchase (and bring them down to the same sort of price as R888s)

What compound have you used too - hard or medium

Linky to info thumbsup

Cheers :)

Not heard of that tyre but the Kumho ECSTA V700 intermediate compound, which looks very similar to those pictured, did really badly in the PPC tyre test against the toyo's and yoko's.

Maybe one to miss then  I've read a couple of reviews on the 70's from a google search, and they were positive, but on heavier cars (they were directly compared to A048)

In PPC they where tested on a track set up golf and a caterfield, IIRC on both the main down size was they took a long time to get up to working temp.

Ive just had a look over on Seloc

Not much on them but:

In relation to A048s

Send them all back and put Kumho V70a on there. Really makes a huge difference.

And

Kumho V70 Ecsta tyres are currently the track day / Sprint tyre of choice for Elises in Australia. They come on very quickly, and seem to give superior grip. The tread is very square compared to Dunlops etc, so one car had rubbing problems when they tried to go up a size. With the 225's make sure you get 45 aspect, not 50. I am about the only one not running them on my S1 yet, as I have stayed with the Dunlop DZ02's, but I will probably go to Kumho's on my next set.

I may give them a go if he can get me a decent price :)

Funny you mention them. I've just come back from a meet with a different forum I'm a member of (primarily Audi based but I always try to take the VX, just to prove a point) and a couple of the guys there are just in the finishing stages of putting together an A8!!! track car. It's fully stripped out of everything (so far they've taken out more than 400kg's of weight) and has a breathed on 4.2 V8 but the motorsport company that has done some of the work recommended these exact tyres and thats despite being almost next door to Toyo's offices and the guy who's car it is even does some work for Toyo. The tyres are being fitted this week so I'll try and find out a bit more as I'd never heard of them. Might also be worth speaking to JT as he might be running them or have some insight on them from the Kumho BMW?

The motorsport division of Kumho is kept seperate from the 'normal' line - I asked if he could get a price for the 31's but they only hold the motorsport range in this depot He mentioned that they are the factory fit tyre for Ultima :)

Hardly a glowing reference considering what Australians call beer ...

Kumho "trackday" tyres are very very good on 700KG or heavier cars.... They do take a little while to get heat into them, but once warmed up they do last for fooking ages before wearing/giving the sidewall a killing. I'd be running them for my daily drive if I didnt do so many fooking miles lol

Great price - gave me 20% off retail, so came out at £432 with free fitting - it would be an extra £20 for postage, but he's willing to honour the price if anyone else wants a set chinky chinky

First thing - these are really light, to the point you could hold one on a single finger easily

The sidewall is very strong (just what I wanted after my T1R experience) tho quite abrupt, should be ok tho as the wheels are ET20

They're in a different league tho (apparently!)

They should be better than the A048's - he made a point of saying that both the R888 and A048s are made from road tyre blanks and the grooves cut in later, whereas the Kumho range are made from track specific compounds with the tread moulded during production

The V70A's are 4-5 'grades' softer compound than the other two (and that's in the "hard" form that I have gone for)

The normal retail price for these is £550 a set :)

That's a shame, as you know I was hoping for 195's, think the 205's will rub on my Nitron set up . Pleased you got fixed up though, still waiting for Camskill to firm up prices on the rest, starting to get a p***d off with them tbh . chinky chinky J

Well, if they're better than 888s I guess I can't expect cheaper!!

Think it's going to be KU31s for me..
