The really dangerous thing in these conditions is traction control. The Golf drives on snow pretty much as it does in the in the dry, perfect traction pulling away, the TC light just blinks away and sorts it all out. Which is great until you come to needing to stop. Upon which nothing happens The ABS gets all confused at it takes an age to stop. 0-30mph in about 2s, 30-0 in about 60.
I always remind my mum of this (she drives an S3 Quattro) so pulls away no bother, so you dont realise when you come to stop you are just as useless as everyone else on summer tyres
