My VXT's now done about 4k miles, and its developed quite a squeak when you turn the steering wheel. The noise appears to be coming from the column around the footwell area. This seems to be worse in the mornings when the cars cold. Anything to be worried about? Also, its also developed a really annoying slapping noise right under where the back of the drivers seat is (it sounds like a loose cable or panel slapping against the metal undertray to me?). Any ideas on what it is and how to fix it?!! Still loving the thing though!! :D :D :D :D

cheers Skiddo - Nice to be back but soooooo much to catch up with on here.

Had a great trip - will try to post some piccies.

And the VXT? Well it was left out in the open through all that sh*tty winter weather for over 4 weeks and when I got back the central locking worked and I tentatively put the key on the ignition, pressed the button and......................... BROOM BROOM! Strarted first time!

Well impressed :groupjump:

Squeaking steering seems to come and go of it's own accord. The door started squeaking the other day. Thorney used his engineering skills to try and fix for me but did't have any effect. 2 Days later the squeak has moved to the engine cover. As Turboman would say 'it's all part of the enjoyment of owning a hand built car'

What was the final word on this? TADTS and nothing to worry about?

I've noticed mine creaking when it's cold and I'm "dead" steering or steering at low speed. Thought it might just be one of those things but it's quite a worrying noise! Or maybe I'm just being paranoid? poof

Also found this thread:

edit: Just found this "fix" too...

Will have to give it a try...
