Unfortunately I'm not sure what else you can do with the car other than strip it for parts... :(

I'm so sorry for you :( Where was the dealer based? No way pass it on - to individual or trade. There's no difference - it'll still end up being driven by someone; and if something happened to them as a result of the damage (or they come on here in the future and post the same as you) - it'd always be on your conscience. You have a responsibility to take the car off the road; and then follow every legal avenue you can to get some recompense. Keep us updated :grouphug:

Gutted for you fella.

I wouldn't feel comfortable putting the car back into the trade as some other individual will come along and like you, buy a bad'n.

Is there no way this damage can be attributed to a shunt you may have fairly soon and then claimed from your insurance (assuming you are fully comp). That way you get your dosh and the car is dealt with properly?

The only reason I suggested that was because it would give a potential new owner some comeback (assuming they did some research on here) against the dealer and/or the dealers insurance. As it stands, Zagadka has no other option other than to sell it as a chassis damaged car (presumably should have been a cat b?), to break it for spares or to drive it in the knowledge that encountering a pothole _could_ wreak even more damage.

:yeahthat:

Would'nt it be sods law if you protected your no claims then a month or two later had a skid off the road at low speed and some bad side impact damage bent the Chassis........

I've often wondered looking at bent bits of tubs why they aren't considered for repair sometimes. Granted if it's had a shunt that has distorted the whole thing it pointless but I've seen some that from an engineering standpoint would be easy to repair without compromising the strength. If that section was made of steel I doubt a repairer would be thinking about scrapping the car, they'd be working out what shape of plate they'd need to weld on to get the structual integrity back

:yeahthat: I think the main reason the chassis isn't usually repaired is due to the heat created from welding being in close proximity to the orange bonding glue - if that section is far enough away from the bonding it may well be possible to straighten and repair  Having said that it won't be cheap :(

I think you need to trace previous owners, fined out who did the damage and when then go from there.

:yeahthat: Sorry to hear this. Not sure what options there are really. Other than breaking it for parts. What is the spec of the car? If it is an early NA with high mileage then it is probably worth £7k max if sold as a whole "good" car. This obviously isnt an option, but with the price of VXs coming down so much it does make it more viable to break it for parts. The only part you wouldnt be able to sell on is the tub so you might be able to get close to £6k if you broke it?? (maybe an option)

What are the chances of this part failing totally? Is turning it into a SORN track slag an option?

Would it not be worth hiding the post for a while and let the guy sort out what he wants/needs to do? Then leave it to the mods to deal with him directly, and eventually either re instate the thread or permanently delete it!!! thumbsup

i would get shot of it mate, you have had years of enjoyment out of it but i guess you havent had a crash in it.... so imagine what could happen if someone crashed into the same place... either that or find someone you really dont like and drve into their car and claim on insurance!

Oh dude, that's awful! Have you tried speaking to your insurance company to find out their stance on matters? Can imagine that your head must be spinning right now but I don't think punting it on would be the honourable thing to do - I know that I couldn't have it on my conscience, as there is the chance (however small) that it could be a contributing factor in an accident. Not that I'm saying it will but you just never know. You must be absolutely gutted :(

Exactly what pincher said above. I really feel for you but don't do anything dishonest - especially with this thread in the public domain! I believe you should be checking your rights on the off chance you may still have any. Main options would appear to be repair/track car - the latter only if it is strong enough.

If it's been subject to repair on an insurance claim (but fully repaired, so not registered) then you may be able to claim against the company that carried out the insurance inspection - it would be hard to find that sort of information without contacting all previous owners though!

I certainly couldn't knowingly sell it on to an individual though.

Me either, especially as i would be expecting a knock at te door a few months down the line when they discover the damage themselves.

But what if he'd have sold the car without knowing about the damage?......

If someone knocked on your door six months after you'd sold your VX after 3 trouble free years and said it's got old chassis damage that you didn't know about, would you just say sorry and give them their money back or would you just say "Caveat Emptor" (buyer beware) and tell them to go away?..

I'd hate to be in Zagabkas situation - it's a real 'rock and a hard place' type position, but what it does show is that all the CAT C/D's around advertised as "light Damage Only" can sometimes not always be the bargain they seem.

In this situation though it would be a little hard to deny all knowleage of the damage after starting this thread. Especially as the new owner will probably be on here.

Was the trader you bought it from named IMRAN by any chance?:P

Won't the previous keepers details be on the V5?

You could always write to them and ask?

Ive just sent one to the ex-owver of my car asking if he has the spare key! :)

That's a good idea - I keep meaning to get in touch with the previous owner of my car to see if he has the exhaust heat shield

 :P

there is (probably) only one person on here that is informed enough to look, make a judgement to the damage, if it is repairable and could fix it too (IMO). This is his daily meat and 2 veg
